Mountain High Its second state championship of the 1V77- 78 school year Wednesday and Thursday when he participates In the North Carolina High Schools Athletic Association teniiis tournament In Chapel Hill. Riddle qualified tor the tournament last Wednes day and Thursday by finishing In the top eight In the Western Regional Tournament at Hickory High School. Riddle Ued tor third place. Riddle, last year's West ern N. C. High Schools Sertoma Am Is Slated Over 200 golfers, Includ ing the top amateurs from the two CbroUnas, as well IS tournament competitors I'om as far away as New fork State, will be com peting In the third annual Sallagher Trails Sertoma Amateur to be held at the Gallagher Trails Golf Club In High Shoals, Saturday and Sunday, June lO-li. Over $4,000 In prises makes this year’s medal event one of the most lucrative amateur tourna ments In the Southeast. A minimum of $200 In merchandise prises Is guaranteed the winner of each flight. The Championship Flight will consist of some 80 players with the top 10 receiving merchandise and or trophies. All of the proceeds of the tournament go to >C!amp- Sertoma, which la located hi Dallas. Camp Sertoma Is designed and staffed for the exclusive care and use tor retarded children. It Is the only camp of It’s kind In a 100 mile radius which will accept retarded children regardless of their ability to pay. The entry fee for the tournament Is $20, which Includes greens fees, but not cart rentals. Activities Association champion, won his first two matches at Hickory before losing to the state’s top-ranked 18-year-old, Mark Dillon of Charlotte Myers Parit. Riddle’s first two vic tories were rather easy 6-8, 6-1 over Buddy Little of Myers Park and 6-1, 6-1 over Whitaker of West Rowan. The 18-hole event will crown the champion of the newly-formed Junior high loop. Shelby, which won all six of Its regular season matches.
