r Page SA—MIRROR-HERALD—Thursday, May 3S, 1978 4" S&L Employes At Banquet Several employes of Home Savings and Losm Association of the Kings Mountain and Bessemer aty Offices attended a Banquet of Charlotte CSiapter 168 of the Institute of Financial Education. Ihe Institute Is sponsored by the American Savings and Loan League. The banquet was held at the Radlson Hotel, Charlotte. The Institute offers courses to all Savings and Loan Personnel to further their education In the Savings and Loan Field. Certificates were presented to the 316 stu dents who finished courses In the last two semesters. Each semester Is two hours, one night a week, for twelve weeks. Classes are held at U.N.C.C. at Charlotte, N. C. In addition to certificates for regular courses, Jacob A. Dixon and Elizabeth (Libby) Blanton were presented Certificates of Achieve ment, with Lapel Pins tor specified courses com pleted. Jacob A. Dixon was elected second vice presi dent to the Board of Direc tors of the Charlotte Chapter 168 for the 1678-79 term. He has served as director tor the past three years. C. of the MICA projects are to Improve the revenue picture, reduce ex penditures and Improve produc tivity. Chamberlain said MICA does not work on getting grants for clients. Tobin, who serves as an area manager for MICA, will discuss pending projects with the mayor and committee to determine what areas MICA csm be of service In to the city. At present MICA Is working with Oaston County, Belmont, Boiling Springs and Shelby In this area. The MICA cUentel list In the state to date numbers 86 counties and com munities. In other action Monday night, the commissioners approve revising a city ordinance covering bonds required for excavation work. A1 Moretz, city codes director said presently the city requires con tractors to put up a $1,000 bond and with the Increased cost of materials and construction, that amount should be Increased to 16,000. Moretz said the city Is charged with maintaining such street work done tmder contract and by in creasing the bond amount the city has a chance of recouping losses when the work Is not acceptable. Moretz said It would also encourage contractors to do better quality work. — Tabled action on awarding a contract for a line truck for the electrical department after receiving two bids. The bids were from USI-Ciapltal Technology Inc. ($60,366) and Baker Equipment and Engineering Oo. ($60,161), both of CSiarlotte. — Approved a rezonlng request from William H. West to rezone property at 1001 Cleveland AVe., adjacent to the city limits, from R-lO to R-ao. The zoning and planning board had recommended the request be approved in Its April meeting. — Approved Oovemor’s Highway Street Sign Safety Program, wliereby the city upgrades the street name signs.
