bring illegal drugs into
North Carolina, according
to federal court records.
The four, along with
another man who was
acquitted, were tried In

morning at home.
Surviving are her son,

and Mrs. Margaret
Blalock Leach, both of
Kings Mountain; three
brothers, John Lewis
Blalock of Kings Mountain
and Robert Blalock and
Pink David Blalock, both
of Philadelphia, Pa., and
five grandchildren.
She was a member of
Mount Zion Baptist
Church.

Mrs. Phifer, sister of the
late George Morrow of
Kings Mountain, died
Friday In Gaston
Memorial Hospital after
declining health for one
year.
She was a native of the
Plsgah Community of
Gaston County, last sur
viving of seven children of
the late Mary Lucinda and
William P. Morrow. She
was a prominent civic and
church leader In Gaston
County, a retired Gaston
County teacher and home
demonstration agent. She
was a member of Garrison
Memorial ARP Church.
Surviving are two sons,
William J. Phifer of
Belmont and George D.
Phifer, Jr. of Gastonia;
two daughters, Mrs.
William Spencer, Jr. of
Gastonia and Mrs. Billy
Spittle of Mount Holly; and
several grandchildren.
Rev. Mr. Fisher and
Rev. Jack Robinson of
ficiated at the rites.

Charlotte on charges that
they conspired to bring
more than 400 pounds of
marijuana and three and a
half pounds of cocaine into
North Carolina.
According to U. S.
Magistrate’s records, the
Jury ended Its
deliberations last Friday
and convicted Thompson
on two counts. He was
sentenced to two five-year
prison teims to run con
currently.
Also convicted, ac
cording to court records,
was Tony Wayne Parker,
38, of Dallas, who was
found guilty of one count
and given a two-year
prison sentence. He was
freed on $6,000 bond.
Evello Antonio Badla, 37,
of Gaston County and
Gustavo Otano Sanches of
Miami, were convicted of
two counts. Sanches was
sentenced to two three
year prison terms to run
concurrently but Badla
was not sentenced.
Acquitted was Felix
Rafael Abreu of Miami.
The star prosecution
witness during the trial
was Steven Charles
Houser, 34, formerly of
Dallas, who Implicated the
five defendants In drug
deals that totaled ap
proximately $100,000.
The five were Indicted by
a federal grand Jury In
Charlotte last February.
