Page 8B—MIRROR-HERALD—Thursday, January 11, 1979 Ms. Ratterree Keynotes DAR Meeting MOcmm Qa^dnem Tlte Colonel Frederick Hambright Chapter of NBDAR met at the home of Mni. W. L. McMackln Jan. 8 at 8:80 p. m. Refreshments were served by the hostess. Mrs. Tolly Shuford, Regent, led the DAR ritual. Mrs. H. A. Ooforth In troduced the speaker, Miss Margaret Ratterree, a member of the Research Division for the Federal Government. Miss Ratterree gave an Informative report on "Building For Our Future Fbr Action Today,” noting that "Janls, a god of an cient Rome, had two faces, one which looked back Into the past, the other, which looked to the future,” adding that "on the basis of past decisions Is our fkiture determined.” She continued that "we are reminded that Harry yotttssiSgjo to Pizza Imt. TTuman remarked that all events are history — they just haven’t happened yet.” Said Miss Ratterree, “our society has taken pride In the divergence of heritage which Its In dividuals have brought to our country, and these same divergencies have been the stepping stones to a great United States because they had a common goal. The desire to be constructive has led them to use their talents, to preserve worthwhile tradlUons, and preserve on atmosphere in which an individual might freely express himself. However, It Is timely to be aware that our strengths could become our weakness If we become complacent In our lifestyle, or over-react or misinterpret our laws. For the strength of a nation Is In her Individuals, and their weakness becomes that of a nation. The weakness of a nation makes her vulnerable to stronger nations. Our hope Is In our youth, and their ability to recognise In dividual responsibility and to uphold the axiom of "man created equal” In value.
