Mountain will be one of nine adult scout leaders In the Piedmont Council to receive the the Sliver Beaver Award next month. The Stiver Beaver Award Is the highest award granted an adult by the council each year. The award is given for noteworthy service of exceptional character to boyhood. The awards will be presented at a banquet to be held Frl., Feb. 23. at Gardner-Webb College. Earning awards. W^n he became scoutmaster of TVo(^ 91 they had six boys. When he retired as scoutmaster the troop had 137 boys. And at one court of honor 136 of them received awards. Falls has had 10 Eagle Scouts ki his troop during hla career. As a Kings Mountain community leader. Falls was voted I9«2's Young Man of the Tear by the Jaycees. He U a member of the local Masonic Lodge. American Legion and la paM chairman of the local Ehster Seals campaign. He Stas president of the Cleveland and Gaston County Service Station Aseoclatlon 197»-I9n and received a Presidential citation of appreciation from the N. C. Council of the International Reading Association. Falla has also served as a director of the Kings Mountain Reacue Squad and was chosen as one of the two top Lutheran scoutmasters In the nation. To New School Posts Falls Is married and has one daughter and one son. Mrs. Jackie Lavender, chemistry and physics teacher at Kings MountsOn High School, has been named asautant principal and desui of women at KMHS. Her appointment was approved Tuesday night at a special meeting of the board of education. Mrs. Lavender assumes the poet previously held by Mrs. Cbselle Vance, who was recently named principal of Blast Elemen tary School. Mary Carol Ward was spproved as chemistry and physics teacher. In another matter, the board granted two rights of ««y to the city of Kings Mountain for extension of streets. One light of way Is In cluded Ind a sale of 10.8 acres of land to the city. On that piece of property, the city has plans to extend North Sims Street to where It will intersect with For Youth Work Gov. Hunt Salutes Moss Gov. Jim Himt wrote Mayor John Moss a letter this week. Lori Warlick Is Christened Sunday Lori Buff Warlick, four months old daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Phil Warlick of Chry, formerly of Kings Mountain, was christened at Sunday services at Cary's first United Methodist Church. Rev. T. M. Faggert offi ciated at the ceremony.
