New Industry Coming Acme-Cleveland Cor poration has taken an option to purchase a parcel of approximately SO acres of land In Shelby, ac cording to an an nouncement today by W. Paul Cooper, President and Chief Executive Of ficer. This will be the site of a new Acme-Cleveland Manufacturing Center which will utilize advanced equipment and methods to produce parts tuid product components for several Acme-Cleveland divisions. Plana call for the start of construction of the 88,400 square foot plant in July of this year with operations to begin early in 1980. ‘Ihomas M. Sanders has been appointed Manager of the new facility. Sanders Joined Acme-Cleveland In 1978 as an Industrial Engineer with Shalco Systems Division's Kewanee Plant and was promoted to Manager of Manufacturing Services, Shalco-Kewanee In 1978. Prior to his new assign ment he has held positions with Acme-Cleveland Development Company as Senior Manufacturing and Development Engineer and Coordinator, Assembly Process Development. Residents of Canterbury Rd. appeared before the board several months ago to request such a planning committee be established to discuss the use of the land. This committee will conduct a feasibility study on the potential of the water line serving the southeastern section of the county and make a recommendation on the feasibility of the city of fering to purchase the line from the Cleveland County Development Corp.
