The Waniora acored an unearned run In their laat time at bat Tueaday to end a pltcher'a duel between their Freddie Petty and KM’a Tim Leach. Petty, who won an earlier game over Leach and the MounOea 1-0, now aporta a 7-8 record while Leach fell to 0-3. And, It waa Petty, the fireballing aenlor ilghthamder, who acored the winning run In the alxth Inning. Petty struck out at least one batter In every Inning except the second, when Leach traded with one away and the Warriors finally got out of the In ning on ground outs by White and Jimmy Chap man. Schuman, who led the KM hitting with 3-for-8, was left In scoring position three different tlmee. He walked with one away In the first and stole aecond but stayed there as Ricky Chapman's long Robinson fanned and Lyn iWve to end the taming. Elayes filed out. He tripled with one away In the third but Petty tenned Robinson and after walking Hayes, atruck out Danny BoUn to end the taming. Kings Mountain's beat opportunity came In the sixth v^en thsy loaded the bases on a walk to Leach, White's double and a walk to Jimmy Chapman. But East leftfielder Todd Kitchen made a brilliant over the shoulder catch on Robinson singled with one away In the seventh and went to second on a wild pitch but Hayes fouled out to the flrat baseman and Petty tenned BoUn to end the game. The game was the third straight one-run game played by the two Eastern Division rivals, and Bast Gaston's second victory. The Warrior win broke a seven-game Kings Mountain winning streak. The Mountalneera had a team score of 681. R-8 Central won the event with 617 and Baet Gaston waa second at 638. After KM were Shelby 648, Chase 644, North Gaston 648, East Rutherford 680, Crest 673, South Point 679 and Bums 684. Jeff Barnard of R-S, player of the year In the SWC, won medallat honors with a 148. Kings Mountain's Darrell Austin finished fourth at 184. The top eight players were named to the All- Cbnference team. Kings Mountain had the beet score on M(mday, ah(X>tlng a 818 to 816 for R- S. But R-S, with a 803, outdistanced the Sold in the opening round at Gallagher Trails and had a big enough lead to fight off all challengere. KM scores for the tourney Included Austin 78- 76-164, Darrell Forbes 78- 80-168, Sammy Wolfe 81- 80-161, Delk Halgler 81-84- 166, Herbie Beam 88-77-163 and Dexter Tate 98-88-181. Forbes mleeed making the All-Conference team by two shots. Auatln, Forbes, Halgler and Wolfe will represent ICMHS In the Sectional Tournament Monday at Gastonia Municipal.
