EI Page 12B-KINGS MOUNTAIN HERALD-Thursday, March 11, 1982 Jacqueline Wins 200 Art Prize Eight-year-old Jacqueline Jackson of Greenville, S.C, recently won first prize in the “Friends of the Zoo” art contest. Of 2,500 contestants, six first place winners were chosen from grades one through six. Final judge was Chuck Welch, Direc- tor of the Fine Arts Center. Jacqueline was presented her prizes during ceremonies at the Greenville Mall. She appeared on the “Peggy Denny Show” on Channel 16 March 9. Jacqueline is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Richard Canipe and the granddaughter of Mr. and Mrs. Jack R. Mercier of Kings Mountan. Beam, Green On Honor List Herbie Lee Beam, son of Mr. and Mrs. Harry L. Beam of Grover, and: Margo Anita Green, daughter of Mrs. Oscar Green of Kings Mountain, were named to the ‘Honor’s List at East Carolina University for the fall semester. A total of 2,876 students from 22 states, the District of Colum- bia and 14 foreign countries were named to the list. To make the nors list, a stu- dent must maintain a B average with no grade lower than a C, Recore Named Officer Of Month Staff Sgt. Frank R. Recore, son of Ernestine M. Recore of 419 Leesville Ave., Bessemer Ci- ty, has been named outstanding noncommissioned officer of the month at Barksdale Air Force Base, La. The sergeant was selected for professional skill, duty perfor- mance and exemplary behavior. Recore, a dental laboratory technician with the U.S. Air Force : Hospital, is a 1971 graduate of Mount Vernon High School, Alexandria, Va. Folk Festival Is Scheduled The Youth Development Committee of Lattimore Church ‘will sponsor the fourth annual Foothills Folk Festival March 27 at 7:30 p.m. at the Lattimore School Auditorium. Admission is $5 for adults and $3 for per- sons age 16 and under. Proceeds will go to the Recreational Development Fund for Lattimore young people. Professional entertainment will be provided by Phil and Gaye Johnson, Red Parham, Maggie Palmer Lauterer, Glen Ward, Pic-n Grin Cloggers, Magnum Cloggers, Hundred- and-Seven String Band, Brush Creek and South by South, Music will include bluegrass, mountain harmonica and guitar songs, folk music, ballads, and sing-alongs. Hot dogs, homemade desserts and cold drinks will be available at the concession stand. SEWING CLASS The Kings Mountain Parks and Recreation Department will be hosting a Basic Sewing Class on Monday evenings from 6:30 t0 9:30 p.m., in the Kings Moun- tain Neighborhood Facility Center (Community Center), located at 208 North Cleveland Avenue. Sponsored by Cleveland Tech, this 11 week class will start as soon as enought students preregister. For more information, or to pre- register, call the Center Office at 739-3549 or stop by room 102 of the Center. Office hours are Monday through Thursday from 2:00 to 10:00 p.m. and Fridays from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Once classes begin, participants will be asked for an $8.00 registration fee, with age 65 and over free. FOOTHILLS GOLF Catawba Country Club will host the first Foothills Golf Tournament of the 1982 season on March’ 18.
