Marable has been unanimously voted Woman of the Year by the Gaston Branch of the National Association of University Women. Her selection has pro- mpted an avalanche of commen- dations, unqualified support from all sources that have benefited by her excellency, devotion and outstanding ac- complishments. Mrs. Marable’s educational background and underpinning bespeak a life-long pilgrimage of ascending discovery and endeavor. She is a graduate of State College (Teachers) in Elizabeth City, N.C. and has an Early Childhood Education Cer- tificate from the University of North Carolina at Charlotte. She has served the chapter in various capacities, mainly Chaplain for several years, serv- ed on the Publicity Committee, Nominating Committee, Courtesy Committee and Special Project Activities. Her immediate supervisors, Superintendent of Kings Moun- tain Schools and Mayor of Kings Mountain are lavish in their praise of contributions that en- compass activities beyond the call of mere official duty. Mrs. Marable is a member of First Congregational United Church of Christ where she serves as Church Clerk, Sunday School Teacher and member of the Woman’s Fellowship. Mrs. Marable began her teaching career in Halifax County Schools, Halfiax, North Carolina, as a Primary Teacher, 1-3. Later she taught Primary grades 1-3 in Kings Mountain City Schools, Title I program. She also served as Kindergarden Teacher, Headstart Director and MRS. MARABLE Teacher. Currently she is employed as a Kindergarden Teacher at North Elementary School, Kings Mountain, Her current organizational af- filiationss are Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, N.C. Piedmont , Chapter of Links, Inc., Gastonia, N.C., NAACP Cleveland Coun- ty Unit; Cleveland County Voters Registration Association; HOMECOMING Dixon Presbyterian Church will have homecoming Sunday. Church School will be at 9:45, morning worship at 10:30 a.m. and dinner on the grounds at 1 p.m. All members, former members and friends are invited to attend. REVIVAL Revival services will be held at Ledford’s Grove Baptist Church July 5 through 10 at 7 p.m. each day. The guest speaker will be the Rev. On Friday at 8 p.m. the Kings Mountain National Military Park will set the pace for the Fourth of July weekend with the film Independence Hall. By trac- ing the events that lead to the drafting of the Declaration of In- dependence, this film gives relevance and brings life to the buildings that today make up In- dependence National Historical Park. All who are interested should meet at the National Park Visitor Center. Due to local Fourth of July celebrations, there will be no evening program on Saturday. A special concert in the park will be held on Friday, July 9, at 7:30 p.m. The concert will feature the 440th Army Band, North Carolina Army National Guard from Raleigh. In the peaceful setting of the park am- phitheater, the band will present an array of musical numbers in- © Weather permitting, the Liv- ing History program will also continue on Saturday and Sun- day afternoons. A Revolu- tionary War campsite will be set. up near the Visitor Center and tended by park employees In Revolutionary period dress. . Eighteenth century musket and rifle demonstrations will be held at 1,2, 3,and 4 p.m. Also the 179-year-old Howser House will be open for visitation on Sunday afternoons from 1 until 4 p.m. A member of the park interpretive staff will be sta- tioned at the house to reveal the history behind this locally famous rock structure. Other ongoing daily programs include an 18 minute film-Kings Mountain, Turning Point in the South; an 8 minute audio-visual museum exhibit program; 1.5 mile Battlefield Trail; 16 mile system of Hiking Trails and 10 mile system of horse trails.
