Eleven-year-old Bryan Jones
of Kings Mountain had a good
showing in the Southern Junior
Tennis Tournament held last
week in Columbia, S.C.
The Central School student
and son of Bob and Barbara
Jones finished in the top 32 in
singles competition and advanc-
ed to the quarter-finals of
doubles before losing to the top-
seeded team of Darren Royal
and Todd Smith of Tennessee.
Jones and his doubles partner,
Victor Meir of Raleigh, knocked
off the tournament’s sixth-
seeded team before losing to
Royal and Smith.
They opened tournament ac-
tion with a 6-2, 6-2 victory over
Richard Flores of Josh Bronson
of Shreveport, La. Ironically,
Shreveport is the home town of
Jones’ grandparents, Mr. and
Mrs. Walter A. Tobias.
