At Skin Care Center
Grand opening of the Scissor
Smith Skin Care Center, located
in Scissor Smith Salon in the
Blazer Building, will be held
Monday from 11 a.m. until 4
p.m.

cian Sheree Nicholson and other
members of the staff will be
demonstrating a new line of pro-
fessional skin care products, in-
cluding the city’s first tanning
booth.

However, she said, booth tann-
ing is a cool process because the
bulbs, unlike the sun or sun
lamps, put out no heat. Tanning
is controlled to prevent sunburn.
Initial lessons in the booth,
she said, last from 30 seconds to
two minutes. As the skin begins
to tan, the salon attendant -in-
creases the time in the booth.
The usual tanning schedule calls
for 20 visits, 10 for a base tan
and another 10 to maintain it.
She said tanning booth
‘devotees are enthusiastic,
especially about the convenience
of keeping a tan through the
winter months. Indoor tanning is
not new, she said, as bulbs were
used during the Second World
War, when doctors in U.S. Army
hospitals used bulbs to speed the
healing process of wounded ser-
vicemen.
The tanning booth, as well as
the new skin care center, is open
to men, women and young
adults, she said.
