Grover Police Chief
Turns In Resignation
From Page 1-A
Brown said he recently talked
to Mayor Bill McCarter and told
the mayor he would stay on as
chief if the town would increase
his salary by 60 percent, rehire
Anthony as reserve officer, and
approve the police policies and
procedures manual Brown
presented to the council 10 mon-
ths ago. He said he asked Mc-
Carter to let him know by last

Wednesday whether or not the
council would grant his requests,
but had not heard anything from
McCarter.
McCarter said he did not call a
commissioners meeting because
he did not want to discuss the
matter until he had received
Brown’s requests in writing.
McCarter said the town will
advertise for another police
chief, but does not know if the
town would hire another
patrolman.
“Having two policemen is
quite a burden financially,” he
said. McCarter said $30,000 is
budgeted for the police depart-
ment and that amount is equal
to the ad valorum taxes the town
collects.
“We were living on federal
money,” McCarter said. “That
makes an awfully tight budget.”
McCarter called Brown a
good policeman. “I have no com-
plaints,” he said.
