Pollock, 87, of Route 3, Kings Mountain, died Tuesday at 10:30 p.m. at Kings Mountain Hospital after several years illness. A native of Blacksburg, S.C., he was the son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Alexander H. Pollock. He retired from Southern Railway in 1950. He was a member of Central United Methodist Church, a veteran of World War I, member of the American Legion and VFW and a lifetime member of the Kings Mountain Lions Club. He is survived by his wife, Linnie Cudd Pollock; one daughter, Mrs. Clarence S. (Julia) Plonk Jr. of Kings Moun- tain; six grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. Services will be conducted Fri- day at 4 p.m. at Central United Methodist Church by the Rev. Ivan Stephens and the Rev. Gerald Weeks. Burial will be in Mountain Rest Cemetery. The family will receive friends Thursday from 7 until 9 p.m. at Harris Funeral Home. H.A. McFARLAND Herbert A. McFarland, 82, of Route 3, Kings Mountain, died Monday at Cleveland Memorial Hospital. A Rutherford County native, he was the son of the late Berry and Mary Jane McFarland Luckadoo. He was a retired farmer and a member of Mt. Moriah United Methodist Church. He is survived by his wife, Ella McNeilly McFarland; a son, H.A. McFarland of Grover; two daughters, Mrs. Clyde (Jannie Rue) Ware of Kings Mountain and Miss Mary Sue McFarland of the home; two brothers, W .K. Luckadoo of Mooresboro and Taft Luckadoo of Caroleen; a sister, Mrs. Velma Toney of Rutherfordton; three grand- children, three grandchildren and three great- grandchildren. Leukemia Society Asking For Funds The Leukemia Society of America, North Carolina Chapter will be conducting its annual residential campaign through September 17 throughout the state of North Carolina. Volunteers have been recruited in Kings Mountain to march their block during this campaign and contact their neighbors for contributions. The Leukemia Society of America is dedicated towards the conquering of leukemia. Funds from the residential cam- paign will be used in the state on research and patient-aid. At the present time the Leukemia Socie- ty of America, North Carolina Chapter has $459,935 in research projects granted in the state of North Carolina. These research projects are being con- ducted at Duke University and the University of North 13 EAE KINGS MOUNTAIN. NC Carolina-Chapel Hill. The Leukemia Society of America is also providing finan- cial assistance to 325 patients in the state of North Carolina. Four of these patients are from Cleveland County. In spite of remarkable medical advances in the last ten years, leukemia re- mains a number one killer disease of children. Leukemia is no longer a hopeless disease. Y ears ago over 90% of everyone with leukemia died within six months but today the picture is much brighter for children and adults due to the research that has helped in treatment and diagnosis. Michael Harrill and the Rev. Vance Allen. Burial was in the church cemetery. WILLIE MORRIS Willie Morris, 56, of 200 Orr Terrace, died Saturday at Cleveland Memorial Hospital. A Cleveland County native, he was employed as a janitor for the Kings Mountain District Schools. He was a member of Galilee United Methodist Church, where he was a trustee and a member of United Methodist Men. Survivors include his wife, Margaret Stowe Morris of New Haven, Conn.; two sons, Steve Morris and Ray Anthony Mor- ris, both of New Haven, Conn.; a daughter, Gail Elizabeth Mor- ris of New Haven, Conn.; a brother, Carnell Morris of Detroit, Mich.; a sister, Mrs. Loudies Burris of Shelby; and four grandchildren. Services will be conducted Thursday at 4 p.m. at Galilee United Methodist Church by the Rev. T.I. Johnson. Burial will be in Webb Memorial Lawns. MAGGIE BENTON Maggie Wood Benton, 77, of 811 Landing Street, died Mon- day at Kings Mountain Hospital. A Cox County, Tenn., native, she was the daughter of the late Will and Laura Sexton Jones and was the wife of the late William Scott Wood and the late James Benton. Survivors include a son, Minor Benton of Bessemer City; a daughter, Mrs. Junior (Genell) Heath of Kings Mountain; 11 grandchildren and 10 great- grandchildren. Services were conducted Wednesday at 4 p.m. at Masters Funeral Home Chapel by the Rev. John Heath and the Rev. Earl Cook. Burial was in Moun- tain Rest Cemetery. MARY FARLEY CHERYVILLE - Mary Etta Farley, 44, of 603 South Moun- tain Street, died Saturday at Cleveland Memorial Hospital in Shelby. A Gaston County native, she was the daughter of Wheeler and Etta Mae Cox Farley of the home. She was a member of Fairview Baptist Church, where she was a past secretary of the Sunday School. Surviving, in addition to her parents, are a daughter, Agathine Farley of the home; two brothers, David Farley of Cherryville and Donald Farley of Kings Mountain; and two sisters, Agnes Malker of Cher- ryville and Jacqueline Link of Charlotte. Services were held Tuesday at 4 p.m. at Fairview Baptist Church. Burial was in Cheryvill City Cemetery.
