The TOWER DEDICATED - The new Memorial Bell Tower at Macedonia Baptist Church was dedicated Sunday to the memory of two Garden Club Meets The Good Earth Garden Club met Mon., Sept. 20 at the home of Connie Phifer. Suzan Simmons presented the program, which included a film of her trip to National Center West in Wyoming. Along with Suzan, Sylvia Holmes presented a film on the redevelop ment of the Girl Scout Camp Rotary. The club decided to have its next meeting at The Betty Lamp, Inc., in Charlotte. There will be a program presented on Primitive Lighting and Folk Art. Macedonia congregation dedicated its new Bell Tower to the memory of Rev. L.D. Scruggs and Rev. The memorial was a project of the Dorcas Sunday School class. Bell Tower Dedicated Macedonia Baptist Church held dedication services for its new Memorial Bell Tower dur- ing morning worship service Sunday. The pastor, Dr. Tom Pattersn, led in the dedication of the tower, which was erected to the memory of Rev. Wayne Ashe and Rev. L.D. Scruggs, two former pastors who died while serving the Macedonia congrega- tion. Recognized during the service were Mrs. Leah Ashe McBride, widow of Rev. Ashe; Jay Ashe, brother of Rev. Ashe; Mrs. Helen Scruggs, widow of Rev. Scruggs; and Mrs. Sheila Prit- ; chett, David and Lori Scruggs, children of Rev. Scruggs. West PTO Roundup Set The West School Parent- Teacher Organization is sponsor- ing a Western Roundup on Sat., Oct. 16. Tickets are now available for a supper which will be held from 4:30 until 7 p.m. ‘The meal will include a hot dog, slaw, baked beans, chips and drink. Take out orders will be available. Homemade desserts will also be sold. Tickets may be purchased from West School parents and students for $1.75. For more in- formation, call the school at 739-5276. Kates Named Grover Chief Grover Town Board has hired Jerry Kates of Shelby as its new police chief. He replaces Mike Brown, who resigned recently. Kates is a native of Edmond, Okla, and is a former military police officer with the U.S. Ar- my. He is currently enrolled in a police science course at Cleveland Tech. GOSPEL SING There will be a gospel singing Saturday at 7:30 p.m. at Mid- « view Baptist Church. Featured. groups will be “The Am- bassadors” from Rock Hill, S.C., iid “The Holmes Trio” from Monroe. Rev. Ashe served the Macedonia congregation from October 1960 until December 1969. Rev. Scruggs served from October 1970 until October 1977.
