ENGAGED - Mrs. Elbert C. Renschler of Madison, Ind., an-
nounces the engagement of her daughter, Cheryl June, to Dr.
John Butler Plonk Jr. of Nashville, Tenn. Dr. Plonk is the son of
Mr. and Mrs. John Butler Plonk of Route 3, Kings Mountain. The
bride-elect holds a B.S. in nursing from the University of
Evansville in Evansville, Ind., and is employed at Vanderbilt
University Hospital as a nurse in the neonatal intensive care
unit. The prospective bridegroom is a 1974 graduate of Kings
Mountain High School. He received a B.S. degree in Zoology in
1977 from UNC-Chapel Hill and graduated from medical
school in 1981 from UNC-Chapel Hill. He is employed by
Vanderbilt University Hospital in Nashville, Tenn., as a second
year pediatric resident. The wedding will be held on
November 6 at Benton Chapel on the campus of Vanderbilt
University.’

Miss Carpenter is a graduate of Peace College and holds an

at Chapel Hill. She was presented in 1976 at the N.C. Terp-
sichorean Debutante Ball in Raleigh. She is employed by the
State Center of Health Statistics in Raleigh. The prospective
bridegroom graduated from the University of North Carolina
in 1977 with an A.B. in History. He is employed by the State of
N.C. Division of Forest Resources. The wedding will be held
January 1, 1983, at Central United Methodist Church.

Sayers, to Kenneth Thomas Baliles, son of Mr. and Mrs. Paul
Baliles of Kings Mountain. The bride-to-be is a 1982 graduate
of Kings Mountain Senior High School, has attended Barbizon
Modeling School and plans to attend college to study fashion
clothes designing. The prospective bridegroom is a 1976
graduate of Kings Mountain Senior High School. He attended
Western Carolina University and is currently in ROTC at Bap-
tist College of Charleston as a’navigation cadet. He was on ac-
