This year’s class sold , over $21,000.00 worth of magazines. This figure breaks our previous high sales total by more than $3500.00. The class deserves a great deal of credit for their tremendous effort, and our community deserves a big thank you for your tremendous support. We knew that the current economic situation might mean a smaller sale this year, but as usual you supported us in a first-rate manner — A big thanks from myself and our juniors. By the way, Holly Dellinger sold 83 subscriptions to earn high sales honors in her class. —Have some free time? We're in need of volunteers for our school. Help is needed to assist in classrooms and clerical assistance for teachers is needed. If you have some free time and would like to be ac- tively involved in our school system, why not volunteer? We haven’t recruited volunteers as actively as some of our elementary schools, but we can use the help, also. Call me or Anita Campbell at school. We'll put you to work! : —Do you need good workers? Our cooperative education students could be the answer. If you need employees and haven’t been suc- cessful in locating what you want, consider our Industrial Cooperative Training (ICT), Distributive Education (DE), and Office Occupations students. Wilburn Wellmon, Adelaid Allison, and Sheila Sisk coor- dinate these programs, and our students make good workers. Give them a try if you have such a need. — Congratulations to Lee Ann Lineberger, a junior, who has been elected State Vice-President of the Future Homemakers of America. Next year, Lee Ann will be state president. This is a real honor and Lee Ann will be quite busy with her duties. By the way, her father, Harold Lineberger, served as state president of the F.F.A. when he was in high school. —The school has a new crest which was designed in art class last year by Bonnie Sheffield. The final art work was done by Jostens, Inc., .and it now hangs in our office area. We plan to use it in the future on stationary, handbooks, and other school related items. It’s very hand- some and thanks go to Bonnie for her work. —A ‘drive will begin soon to raise the necessary funds to send our band on a trip to Florida this spring. While there, they will perform several times, once in a concert band contest. We try to send them on such a trip every three years so that each band member will get to go once. They represent us so well throughout the year that we think they are deserving of this reward. If you’ve never heard them perform, why not come to a band concer this year? They are free, and the first one is on December 16. —Homecomgin at school is this Friday. The students always look forward to this event. We’ll have our usual pep rally, parade, and dance. The queen will be crowned at halftime of the game with North Gaston. I hop you'll join us in these activities. The S.P.O. is to be con- gratulated for their hard work on this year’s events. Tim Plonk is serv- ing as S.P.O. president. —As you know, we returned to a formal attendance policy this year. Our attendance for the first month of school was 96.5%. We must work together. —A special thank you goes to the Mountaineer Club members who work so hard at the ball games and other events supporting our athletic program. There is room for plenty of helpers, so if you’re in- terested just contact Bill Grissom or myself. These folks provide a great service to our students and our school. — We've just completed giving the Competency Test to our juniors and now anxiously await the results. For any who happen not to pass either or both parts of the test this time, there will be remedial help before the next test. I think this year’s junior class will do well. —Senior citizens, it’s not too late to get a Golden Mountaineer Pass, entitling you to free admission at all school-sponsored events on cam- pus. If you're living in our school district and are 65 or older, just stop by the office to pick up your pass. —I know you've noticed quite a few articles in the Herald about our school: Mary Taylor, one of our English teachers, is our liason with the paper and has done a terrific job of publicizing our special pro- _ grams and events. We are very grateful to the Herald for their coopera- tion in printing these items. I hope these items keep you up-to-date with news from the senior high. Visit some of our events. I think youll find that you will enjoy them. Our students do an excellent job, and we'll be glad to have you.
