conductor and director of educa-
tion since 1980, coordinates -all
North Carolina Symphony
children’s concerts, supervises
the Bryan Young Artist Com-
petition held each January and
coordinates all symphony
ensemble programs and ap-
pearances. ’
Parkhurst founded the
Brevard (N.C.) Chamber Or-
chestra five years ago and was
music director of the Lexington
Park String Ensemble and direc-
tor of choral music at UNC-
Asheville during 1979-80. He
was one of 15 conductors
selected from over 100 ap-
plicants to participate in the
American Symphony Orchestra
League’s Institute of Orchestral
Studies * at the Shenandoah
Music Festival in 1975.
In addition to conducting or-
chestral music, Parkhurst is also
an accomplished conductor of
opera theatres. He was assistant
conductor of Opera theatres at
Duke University from 1966-67,
the University of North Carolina
from 1968-69, and the Manhat-
tan School of Music from
1973-74.
Guest conductor of the Bronx
Opera Company in New York
City from 1974-75, Parkhurst
was also a participant in Boris
Goldovsky’s Opera Insitute in
North Dartmouth,
Massachusetts, in 1976.
During the summers of 1981
: and 1982 Parkhurst conducted
the Brevard Music Center’s
Transylvania Orchestra and
Repertory Training Orchestra.
He was also coordinator of
Educational Programs and in
charge of the Repertory Train-
ing Program.
Patriots Host Chase

High’s footballers hope to end
their season on a winning note
Thursday at 4 p.m. when they
host Chase at Gamble Stadium.
The Patriots, 1-5-1, are com-
ing off a 14-0 loss last week to
Shelby. The Pats managed only
90 yards rushing. :
Otis Brooks had a good day
for the Pats, rushing for 60 yards
and catching four passes for 37
yards. Roderick Boyce hit seven
of 18 passes for 75 yards.
Coach David Heffner cited
Calvin Stephens, Donald
Mauney, Lenny Rayford, Keith
McPherson, Robert Huggins,
Benji Cochran, Vince Sullens,
Kevin Sabucco, Paul Terry and

Revival Scheduled
At First Wesleyan
Revival services will be held
November 1-7 at 7 p.m. each
evening at First Wesleyan
Church.
Evangelist will be the Rev.
Yancey H. Carter of Long
Beach, N.C. Rev. Carter is a
retired Wesleyan pastor, now
serving as evangelist to the
denomination. He pastored in
Kings Mountain several years
ago at East Gold Street
Wesleyan Church.
a Specialy singing will, be
featured during each service and
a nursery will be provided.
First Wesleyan is located in
the 500 block of North Pied-
mont Avenue. The pastor, Rev.
Dwight H. Edwards, and the
congregation invite the public to
attend.

Schweiner Is Named
President Of Carmet
J.J. Schweiner has been nam-
ed President of Carmet Com-
pany, a member of Allegheny In-
ternational, Inc.
. Schweiner, who had been
Vice President and General
Manager, of Carmet Minetool
and Materials Divisions succeeds
Herbert Graves who becomes
Senior Staff Vice President, Ac-
quistitions and Divestitures for
Allegheny International. Sch-
weiner will report to Alan
Anderson, Corporate Vice Presi-
dent, and President of Als
Engineered Products Group.
Carmet emcompassses five
divisions: Amcab, Carmet
Materials, Carmet West Coast,
Precision Products and Carmet
Minetool.
Schweiner joined Carmet
Minetool in 1973 as General
Manager, coming from MGD
Graphics System, Rockwell In-
ternational, Inc., where he was
General Plant Manager.
Schweiner is a graduate of the

University of Wisconsin with a
master degree in marketing and
finance, and is a member of the
American Mining Congress. He
lives with his wife and son in
Gastonia.
Carmet is a major producer of
mining and construction tools,
carbide metal-forming tooling,
cemented tungsten carbide
blanks and tungsten carbide pro-
ducts for the contrainer in-
dustry.
Zahn Goins
Celebrates
Birthday
Zahn Goins celebrated his
eighth birthday October 27 with
a party attended by friends and
family members. He and his
guests enjoyed a Smurf cake and
other party refreshments.
‘Zahn is the son of Mrs. Judy
Bridges and Mike Goins. Grand-
parents are Ivey Smith and
Roselyn Gons, both of Kings
Mountain.
