These are letters to Santa
Claus from East Elementary
School’s fourth grade.
Dear Santa,
My fourth graders and I have
had such fun getting ready for
Christmas. I would especially
like these three things for
Christmas, (1) lots of red pens for
grading papers, (2) an informa-
tional article on How To Give
Homework Through Video
Games, (3) a pair of earmuffs (I'll
save them for next year’s week
before Christmas vacation).
Have a smurfy Christmas,
Santa.
Mrs. Wood
Dear Santa,
I wish the whole class could go
outside for two whole hours and
play. football, or kickball. I
would like the whole class to use
good sportsmanship. We love
our fourth grade.
Chris Sisk
Dear Santa,
I wish you could bring Mrs.
Wood a lot of things for her, but
only if we hd the money for her.
And I wish you could bring us a
lot of games to play within the
classroom. We need our water-
fountain fixed up, Mrs. Austin,
our music teacher needs a music
room all to herself at East
Elementary. We have the best
class in town. We really need
these things.
Robin Garner
Dear Santa,

have a good 4th grade class. We
have a good teacher. We have
nice lunchroom ladies. We have
a lots of games.

Dear Santa,
Instead of writing a letter
wanting something for me. I'm
writing because I want our class
to be nice. And to be together.
We have such a nice class. Please
let us stay that way. We love our
class. :

Dear Santa,
Could you bring our school
some footballs and some
baseballs and bats? Could you
bring some soccer balls?

Dear Santa,
I would like some new games
in our classroom. But most of all

Duke Power
Assists Needy
The United Way of Gaston
County, Inc. has been
designated to administer Duke
Power Company’s $100,000
Community Challenge Heating
Fund in this area, the utility’s
Branch Manager, Cary Diggs an-
nounced today.
Establishment of the
$100,000 fund initiated by the
company’s stockholders was an-
nounced recently to assist the
needy in paying their winter fuel
bills. The United Way of Gaston
County, Inc. will seek donations
from local sources to match
funds on a 4-to-1 basis and will
determine who is eligible for the
heating assistance program, the
official said.
Those receiving assistance do
not have to be Duke Power
customers and may heat with
any source-electricity, natural
gas, oil, wood, kerosene or
anything else, according to Mrs.
Diggs.
“Need alone will determine
eligibility,” the spokesman said.
The challenge period to raise
donations from local businesses,
individuals, churches and civic,
professional and service
organizations will run through
Mar. 15.
“Duke Power’s stockholders
recognize that difficult economic
times make it hard for some to
pay their heating bills,” Diggs
said. “Organizations and in-
dividuals wishing to donate to
the fund are assured that their
contributions will be used to help
people stay warm this winter.”
Dear Santa,
If I had three wishes my first
wish would be to have the best
class in the whole world! Then
after that my second wish would
be that my whole class would
stay just the way it is!" And my
very last wish would be that my
‘class would never ever forget
about each other!

Dear Santa,
If I had wonderful wishes I
would wish that our country
vould not fight anymore.
Because if our country would
fight others would want too, and
I would not want that to hap-
pen. Our class is very nice,
