Eaton To Close
Ohio, Michigan Plants
CLEVELAND, OHIO—Eaton
Corporation today announced
that manufacturing operations
of its engineered fasteners plant
in Cleveland, Ohio and its engine
valve plant in Battle Creek,
Michigan would be phased out
over the next 12 months. There
are currently 310 employees at
the Ohio facility and 255
employees at the Michigan
plant. :

plants follows intense and frank
~ discussions by management and

The increased competitive
pressures from the current reces-
sion and bleak market outlooks
and created conditions that
could not be solved at the
bargaining table. Both plants are
covered by a UAW Master Con-
tract which expires on February
6th. A third Eaton plant in Mar-
shall, Michigan is also included
in the Master Contract and
negotiations on a new agreement
for that facility continue.
