BELMONT - James Ray Mit- chell Sr., 60, of Route 1, died Wed., Feb. 23. He was a truck driver. Survivors include two sons, James R. Mitchell Jr. of Belmont and James Richard Dimsdale of Sylva; two daughters, Annice Dimsdale Roberts of Kings Mountain and Jean M. Sum- merlin of Lowell; and seven grandchildren. Graveside services were con- ducted Friday at 11 a.m. at Gaston Memorial Park by the Rev. Larry Gaddis. GLADYS LOVELACE Gladys Howell Lovelace, 67, of Route 6, Kings Mountain, died Saturday at 10:15 a.m. at Cleveland Memorial Hospital. A native of Shelby, she was the daughter of the late Mills and Maggie Russ Howell. She was a salesperson and a member of David Baptist Church. She is. survived by her hus- band, Samuel Thomas Lovelace; one son, Jerry Lovelace of Kings Mountain; one sister, Mrs. B.P. (Mildred) Cook of Kings Moun- tain; and one grandchild. Services were conducted Mon- day at 3. p.m. at David Baptist Church by the Rev. James Parks and the Rev. Russell Fitts. Burial was in the church cemetery. Memorials may be made to the David Baptist Church building fund. CHARLES J. MITCHAM Charles Joshua Mitcham, 72, of Route 4, Kings Mountain, died Saturday at his home. A retired textile employee, he * was the son of the late Alonzo and Minnie Phifer Mitcham. He was a retired textile employee and a veteran of World War II. He is survived by one brother, Howard Mitcham of Kings Mountain; and one sister, Mrs. B.P. (Fannie) Jackson of Kings Mountain. Funeral services were con- ducted Monday at 3 p.m. at Har- ris Funeral Home Chapel by Dr. Tom Patterson. Burial was in ~ Mountain Rest Cemetery. PAUL B. TAYLOR GAFFNEY, S. C. -Paul Bubert Taylor, 61, of 615 Beech Street, died Wednesday at 9:50 p.m. at the V.A. Hospital in Asheville. A native of Cherokee County, he was the son of the late Robert Taylor and Lillia Hope Isler Taylor Owensby of Gaffney. He was a retired barber. In addition to his mother, he is survived by a brother, W.R. “Bill” Taylor of Kings Moun- tain; and three sisters, Mrs. Eula Porter of Blacksburg, Mrs. Mary Bratton of Gaffney and Mrs. Estelle Ray of Cowpens. Services were conducted Fri- day at 3 p.m. at the Church of God by the Rev. Paul Herring and the Rev. Nathaniel Wright. Burial was in Mountain View Cemetery. PUAL ELLIOTT SHELBY - Paul Woodrow Elliott 'Sr., 168, of: 910 Meadowbrook Lane, died Satur- day at his home. A Rutherford County native, he was the son of the late Plato and Amanda Searcey Elliott. He was a retired employee of Porter Brothers and worked part-time at Kings Mountain Farm Center. He was a member of Se- cond Baptist Church in Shelby and the Roberts Men’s Sunday School class. He served in the U.S. Army in World War II. He is survived by his wife, Ida a son, Paul W. Elliott Jr. of Raeford; a brother, Edgar N. Elliott of Rutherford County; two sisters, Mrs. Jim Northey of Rutherford County and Mrs. David Howell of Taylor, Mich.; and a grand- child. Services were conducted Mon- day at 2:30 p.m. at Second Bap- tist Church by the Rev. JW. Lockaby and the Rev. Bruce Hancock. Burial was in Cleveland Memorial Park. Memorials may be made to the Second: Baptist Church building fund. LUTHER HERRING Luther Hamilton Herring, 65, of Freedom Mill Road, Kings ‘Mountain, died Sunday at Kings Mountain Hospital. An Anderson, S.C., native, he was the son of the late Reese and Elizabeth Turner Herring. He was a retired textile workér and a veteran of World War II. He is survived by his wife, In- : Richard E. Lane, ez Gillespie Herring; a son, Jerry Herring of Gastonia; two daughters, Mrs. Anita Stroupe of Kings Mountain and Mrs. Emily Webb of McAdenville; three sisters, Mrs. Eula Mae Long of Starr, S.C., and Mrs. Myrtle Norwood and Mrs. Ruthie Purifoy of Anderson, S.C.; and seven grandchildren, Services were conducted Tues- day at 3 p.m. at the Sisk-Butler Funeral Home Chapel in Bessemer City by the Rev. Bill Miller, the Rev. Lawrence Spicer and the Rev. Tony Mullinax. Burial was in Westview Gardens. PAUL PUTNAM Paul Sidney Putnam, 70, of Route 2, Kings Mountain, died ‘Monday at Kings Mountain Hospital after several months il- Iness. A Cleveland County native, he was the son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Jesse H. Puntam. He was a retired textile employee and a member of Oak Grove Baptist Church. He is survived by his wife, Ed- na Tate Putnam; a son, Wayne Putnam of Kings Mountain; a daughter, Mrs. Jake (Doris) Green of Kings Mountain; two brothers, Millard Putnam of Kings Mountain and Odell Put- nam of Gastonia; a sister, Mrs. James (Annie Mae) Webster of Kings Mountain; and five grand- sons. Services were conducted Wednesday at 4 p.m. at Oak Grove Baptist Church by the Rev. Bruce Hancock, the Rev. W.F. Monroe and the Rev. James Parks. Burial was in the church cemetery. RICHARD E LANE WALLINGFORD, CT. - 84, died February 26 at the Masonic Home in Wallingford. He was a veteran of the Queen’s Own Cameron Highlanders in World War I and World War II, was a member of the Hiram Masonic Lodge Number 18 in Sandy Hook, Ct., and was a member of the Nokomis, Fla., Fire-Police. He is survived by his wife, Melba Lane of Wallingford; seven sons, Richard C. Lane of ‘Kings “Mountain, Wallace E. Lane of Ontario, Canada, Donald R. Lane of Nokomis, Fla., and Franklin, N.C., Stuart V. Lane of Woodbury, Ct., James B. Lane of Nokomis, Fla., and Franklin, N.C., Selwyn H. Lane of New Hampshire and Thomas Lane of Massachusetts; three daughters, Mrs. George Masaric of Maine, Mrs. Andrew Locke of Bridgeport, Ct., and Mrs. Lois Ognan of Roxbury, Ct.; one sister, Mrs. Dorothy Freeman of Ontario, Canada and Nokomis, Fla.; 35 grand- children, and 28 great- grandchildren. BEATRICE PATTERSON Beatrice Patterson, 89, of Route 4, Kings Mountain, died Wednesday. A York County, S.C., native, she was the daughter of the late Spencer and Alice Russell Robinson. She was married to the late Jasper Patterson. She was a member of the Heroines of the Jericho and was a member of Mount Olive Bap- tist Church, where she served as a deaconess, president of the mis- sionary circle and fourth vice president of the Women’s Mis- sionary Auxiliary. She is survived by seven sons, Theodore, Eugene, Alphonso and Jasper ‘W. Patterson Jr., all of Baltimore, Md., Sylvanna Pat- terson of Washington, D.C., Ber- nard Patterson of Newark, N. J. and Robert Patterson of Hillside, N.J.; four daughters, Virginia Byers and S.P. Campbell of Kings Mountain, Katherine Davis of Spartanburg, S.C., and Hester Stevens of Bridgeport, Conn.; a sister, Lucy Burris of Kings Mountain; 20 grand- children, 27 great-grandchildren and one great-great grandchild. Services were conducted Sun- day at 3 p.. at Mount Olive Bap- tist church by the Rev. Willie A. Maddox. Burial was in the church cemetery. DENVER TIGNOR SR. LINCOLNTON - Denver Tignor Sr., died Saturday. He is survived by one son, Paul Tignor of Gastonia; one daughter, Mrs. Joan Cloninger of Lincolnton; two brothers, Audley Tignor and Gene Tignor of Kings Mountain; and five grandchildren. Funeral services were con- ducted Monday at 3 p.m. at Warlick Funeral Home Chapel in Lincolnton. Burial was in Mountain Rest Cemetery in Kings Mountain. CATHERINE BOONE Catherine Shytle Boone, 77, of Route 1, Kings Mountain, died Monday at Kings Mountain Hospital. She was a retired textile employee and the daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Jackson Shytle. Her husband was the late Charles David ‘Rhyne. She is survived by two sons, James Rhyne of Kings Moun- tain and Thomas David Rhyne of Belmont; two daughters, Frances Morrison of Shelby and Linda Boone of Kings Moun- tain; four brothers, Bill Shytle of Kings Mountain, Taylor Shytle of Bryson City, Bud Shytle of Chapel Hill and Martin Shytle of Orlando, Fla.; three sisters, Bon- nie Allen of Shelby, Ruby Hum- phries of Kings Mountain and Ruth Horn of Kissimmee, Fla.; eight grandchildren; - and five : great-grandchildren. : Services will be conducted Thursday at 2 p.m. at the First Church of the Nazarene by the Rev. LK. Fannin. Burial will be in Mountain Rest Cemetery. ALICE FARRIS Alice Vernell Dover Farris, 40, of Route 5, Kings Mountain; died Friday. She was the daughter of Charlie - and Blanche Bolin Dover of Bryson City, Tenn. In addition to her parents, she is survived by her husband, Wray Farris of the home; a daughter, LaDonna Farris of the home; three brothers, Johnny Dover, Dennis Dover and Charles Dover, all of York, S.C.; three sisters, Mrs. Geraldine Howe of Rock Hill, S.C., Mrs. JoAnn Shipton of York, S.C., and Mrs. Dorothy McMillan of Bryson City, Tenn.
