Michelle Grigg of Kings Mountain was first runner-up in the 1983 Little Miss and Teen Miss Atlantic Coast pageant Saturday at the Valley Hills Mall in Hickory. She competed in the 18 months-three year old divi- sion. Michelle is the two-year-old daughter of Mike and Libby Grigg of Kings Mountain. She is the granddaughter of J.D. and Doris Upchurch of Kings Moun- tain and G.L. “Bud” and Marie Grigg of Gastonia. Great- grandparents are Carrie Grigg of Kings Mountain and Delilah Bolton and Grace Buras, both of Blacksburg. Attending the pageant along with Michelle were her parents, Norma Penny, David Upchurch, Martha Bolton, Doris Upchurch, Delila Bolton and Scottie Hamrick. In the party dress competition, Michelle wore a light blue silk dress with crepe overlay ruffles and sleeves trimmed in lace, .wide lace accented collar and a satin ribbon belt. She wore a blue satin bow in her hair with small silk flowers hanging from it. Whtie party shoes and anklets trimmed in lace completed the outfit. In the sportswear competition, she wore a green knicker jump- suit. The jumpsuit was accented by a white slip-on blouse with gatehred neckline and sleeves, both trimmed in lace. Members of the committee were selected by colleges and univer- sities across the state. The group’s highest priority for the current legislative session is an increase in the amount of _ state aid provided to the 24,000 North Carolina students atten- ding the state’s 38 independent colleges and universities. Currently the state grants $850 for each state resident at- tending an independent institu- tion. The General Assembly has been asked to raise that alloca- tion to $1,025 for 1983-84 and to $1,200 for 1984-85. Former N.C. Supreme Court Justice David Britt, one of the committee’s co-chairman, said the additional aid is needed to assure that all students have a choice in the type of education program that best meets their ‘needs. 2 Rhea Is Named VP-GM Roman L. Anyzeski, Chair- man of the Board of Raco Manufacturing, has announced the promotion of Ronald W. Rhea to the position of Vice ‘President - General Manager. Rhea, who has been Marketing Director of RACO’s Special Products Division for the past two years in Whittier, California received the approval of the Directors January 28. In addition, RACO announc- ed the appointment of Joseph Dei Santi as Manufacturing Co- ordinator. Dei Santi’s respon- sibilities will be to oversee inyen- tory control, purchasing, produc- tion and shipping scheduling. Rhea views his promotion as a great challenge in bringing about stronger diversification in all areas of RACO die casting operations. “RACO has good technical capabilities, good depth in mid- dle management and great manufacturing capabilities,” he’ said. RACO's die cast capabilities also include’ secondary machin- ing and finishing equipment: to perform trimming, milling, drill- ing, reaming, tapping and other operations, together with design and tool making facilities, “The major bulk of our die casting operations are in sporting goods - golf putters, metal bows, metal wood head for many ma- jor golf companies,” Rhea said.
