According to Lieutenant Col- onel James J. Mills, Commander of the Charlotte District Recruiting Command, ‘who is responsible for Army Recruiting activities throughout western North Carolina, this extension will allow many of the state’s seniors the opportunity to accure money for their higher educa- tion. Matched by government funds on a $2 for $1 ratio, a maximum of $8,100 can be reached. When the soldier qualifies for the ACF, the Army adds bonus money which pro- vides a soldier who enlist for two years with a fund of $15,200 and. a soldier who enlists for three of four years of $20,100. “This is a fantastic return on the soldier’s personal contribu- tion,” Mills said. “It is an earned benefit of enlistment and not a burdensome loan to be repaid at Veterans Education Assistance Program by adding a bonus of from $8,000 to $12,000. The Ar- my is the only branch of service to offer this special incentive bonus. Under the parent program ad- high interest rates,” he added.
