NMA I ARS IR i a i at oe Sil night's annual meeting of the Catawba Mauney Wins Award Kemp Mauney of Kings Mountain received the 1983 Member of the Year Award at the annual meeting of the GRANT OSBURN Grant Osburn Notes Birthday Grant Osburn celebrated, his. eighth birthday Friday with a surprise birthday party at his home in the Dixon Community. Helping Grant celebrate were Todd Hagens, Trent Hagens, Kelly Broome, Harry Garner, Chuck Wright, Phillip Harris, and his sister, Gretchen Osburn. Grant is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Gary Osburn and is a se- cond grader at Grover School. Catawba Valley Hosiery Association Tuesday night at the Lake Hickory Country Club in Hickory. Congressman James T. Broyhill of Lenoir was guest speaker for the event. Over 400 people attended. The meeting was Mauney’s last meeting as president of the organization. Hugh Gaither has been elected president for 1983-84. Mauney is a graduate of Asheville School for Boys and N.C. State University. He serves as Executive Vice President of Mauney Hosiery Mills and General Manager of Cleveland Hosiery, Lyntex Hosiery and Can Do Hosiery of Kings Moun- tain. He is married to the former Debbie Sprouse. They have two children, a son, Will, age four, and a daughter, Mary Amelia, age seven months. A past Kings Mountain Jaycee President, Mauney is a member of the Jaycee Senate and is active in St. Matthew’s Lutheran Church. Mauney has been featured in many national hosiery publica- “tions and wrote an article for the January 1983 edition of Hosiery And Underwear. This annual county wide event is sponsored by the Cleveland County Historical Museum, the Greater Shelby Chamber of Commerce, the Shelby Art League, the Shelby Merchants Association, and Up- town Shelby Association with the cooperation of the Cleveland County Working Artist Guild. As in the past, the 1983 Art Show will be a county wide event and will include all ages and a variety of art categories. Slimnastics Class Set There will be a Slimnastics and Arobics class beginning April 18. The class will meet on Mondays and Wednesdays, from 7-8 p.m. for 10 weeks. The cost for this class will be $10.00. The instructor will be Janice LeVere. Classes will be held at North School. For further information or to register early call the Communi- ty Schools office at 739-2296, 8:30 a.m.-4:00 p.m. Anyone is eligible to enter. The art will be displayed on the old courtsquare if the weather per- mits, or in the Cleveland County Museum in the event of rain. Entries in all categories will be judged and ribbons will be awarded for 1st, 2nd and 3rd places and honorable mention. Prizes will be given to the top winners in each category.
