SENIOR HIGH WINNERS—Winners of the senior high division in the Kiwanis Club Talent show Thursday night are pictured above. Kneeling is Theron Feemster. Stan- Singers Are Winners ‘Singers took the prizes in the annual Kiwanis Club Junior and Senior High School Talent Shows Thursday night at B.N. Barnes Auditorium. Merinda Arrowood and Lavonda Grier sang “Fame” to win the junior high division and the Four Voices of Charity sang “Uncloudy Day” to win the high school divisions. Members of that group were Arjuana Curry, Lisa Vaughn, Marva Johnson and Mary Ann Feemster. They were accom- panied on the piano by the Rev. Theron Feemster. The Fantastic Four—Gary Pioneers Sponsor Zoo Days Children that visit the North Carolina Zoo in Asheboro will ‘get to see lions, chimpanzees, elephants, baboons and a lot of other popular animals plus an exotic wild life animal called the sitatunga. Two of these rare antelope type creatures are at their new home in- the North Carolina Z00, courtesy of the Telephone Pioneers. The sitatunga is a rather shy creature that stands 40 inches tall and weighs 200 pounds, and is also known as the marsh buck. Pioneers are longer - service telephone employees, both ac- tive and retired, who have served at least 18 years with the telephone industry. : The Pioneers have decided to continue to assist the North Carolina Zoo as a community .service project that will benefit every person in the state. Frances Brown publicity chairperson for the Foothills Council said that this is a North Carolina Chapter No. 35 project which each council in involved and excited about. Since this is an on going pro- ject for the Telephone Pioneers, the zoo will hold special zoo days each year. On that® day the Pioneers will treat local retarted youngsters to a day at the zoo. SPRING CONCERT SET AT HUNTER HUSS On Thursday evening, April 28 at 8 p.m. the 50 voice Gaston Choral Society will present its Spring Concert at Hunter Huss High School Auditorium. The group is under the direction of Mary McFarland of Belmont and is accompanied by Mary Johnson.
