May 5. 1983 Walk-A-Thon To Benefit March Of Dimes There will be a WalkAmerica walk-a-thon for the March of “ Dimes Sat., May 14 in Kings # Mountain. Te Registration will begin at 9:30 ¢ a.m. at Kings Mountain Junior High. Walkers will walk four % miles from the junior high to - West Gold Street and back. : Lunch will be served to all walkers. Persons of all ages are en- couraged to enter. Pledge sheets are available at the Kings Moun- tain Herald, WKMT, Kings Mountain Junior High, Kings Mountain Senior High, Central School, West School, Bethware School and the Seven-Eleven Store on Phifer Road. their donations between now and May 14 and turn their money in that day. Dale Costner, former Cleveland County Sheriff, reported to work Monday as an Inspector for the North Carolina Division of Motor Vehicles in the License, Theft and Weight division. Costner will work outside of Cleveland County but will con- tinue to reside in the county. Costner served in the Cleveland County Sheriff’s Department for 27 years and was Sheriff for the past three years before being defeated in his bid for re-election by Buddy McKinney. Costner was ap- pointed Sheriff by the Cleveland County Board of Commissioners after the retirement of Sheriff Haywood Allen. “It was a special honor for me to serve the citizens of Cleveland .
