The Debutante Ball originated in 1946 when 31 young ladies from Western North Carolina were presented to society. In- spired by the late Isabel Hoey Paul and patterned after the an- nual debutante ball in Raleigh, the ball has become a well- established social event in Western North Carolina. Following months of parties honoring the debs, the ball weekend provides two days of delightful activities hosted by the League for the debutantes, their parents, and their marshals, as well as the presentation itself. The gala events are enhanced by elegant decorations, elaborate menus and the best available music. DAVID PEELER Peeler Scholarship Recipient David Peeler, son of Mr. and Mrs. Shuford K.
