Mountain and Shelby High
Schools received two of the
highest awards given Erskine
College students during Honors
Day May 4 at the college.
Elizabeth McGill, daughter of
Dr. and Mrs. J.C. McGill, 703
Hillside Drive, Kings Mountain,
received the American Legion
Medal, given annually to a
senior woman on the basis of
outstanding leadership and
citizenship. Miss McGill, an
honor student in biology who
will enter medical school in the
fall, is president of the Erskine
Circle of Omicron Delta Kappa,
national leadership society. In
addition to her many academic
and religious honors, she has
played on the women’s tennis
team. ;
Miss McGill is a graduate of
Kings Mountain High School.
Dora Padgett, daughter of Mr.
.and Mrs. C.B. Padgett, Rt. 3,
Kings Mountain, received the
Joseph T. Stukes Award. This
award, given in honor of former
Erskine Academic Dean J.T.

Miss Padgett, a senior
business major, served as a class
officer three years, as a treasurer
of the student body, and as a
member of Student Senate and
Omicron Delta Kappa.
She is a graduate of Shetty
High School.

Chapter of the American Red
Cross will hold its annual
volunteer recognition dinner
Tues., May 24 at 6:30 p.m. at
Central United Methodist
Church, 20 North Washington

All volunteers are encouraged
to attend. Anyone planning to
attend is asked to call the Red
