ABC Registration Deadline June 2
Citizens who are not
registered to vote have until
Mon., June 20 at 5 p.m. to
_ register and still be eligible to
vote in the July 19 liquor
referendum.
Kings Mountain citizens will
£0 to the polls on July 19 to
decide whether or not to allow
the off-premises sale of malt
beverages, the off-premises sale
of unfortified wine, and the
~establishment of an ABC store.
All residents who are current-
ly registered with the Cleveland
County Board of Elections are
eligible to vote. Any voters who
have changed addresses but have
not reported that change to the
County Elections Board should
do so immediately.
The polls will open at 6:30
a.m. and close at 7:30 p.m. at the
Kings Mountain National
Guard Armory (West precinct)
and the Kings Mountain Com-
munity Center (East precinct).
Voters may register at the
County Elections Office in
Shelby between 8:30 a.m. and §
p.m., Monday through Friday,
or by appointment at the home
of his Precinct Registrar or
Judge. They are West Precinct,

This is Kings Mountain’s third
ABC election in the past 17
years. In 1967, an ABC vote fail-
ed by a vote of 1,411 against to
1,091 for. In 1975, it failed by a
vote of 1,471 against to 1,310
for. In a vote for malt beverages
and wine, the vote was 1,499
against to 1,267 for.
Action
League
To Meet
The Positive Action League
will conduct a meeting Sunday,
May 29 at 3 p.m. at Boyce
Memorial Associate Reformed
Presbyterian Church on Edge-
mont Drive.
Coy Privette, Director of the
North Carolina Christian Action
League, will be the keynote
speaker. Several local citizens

as to the sale of beer, wine and li-
quor in the Kings Mountain
. area.

Is $52,550

The bid was negotiated by
George Jackson and Bill and
Vangie Ramsey. :
A second public auction has
been scheduled for Thurs., June
11 at 11 a.m. at the site. Bidding
will begin at $52,550.
Warren Reynolds’ bid of
$50,000 was high bid at the first
auction held several weeks ago.
In accordance with state law, the
bids must remain open for upset
for 10 days. Each time the high
bid is upset, the sale must go
back to public auction. ;
The Board of Education
declared the building and
grounds unsuitable for public
school use several months ago.
The buildings, which contain
two classroom wings, a gym-
nasium, cafeteria and a concrete
building once used for
agriculture, contain 26,779
square feet of space. The land
contains 6.2804 acres.
Attic Sale
Items Needed
The Sertoma Club and area
churches are sponsoring a Ten °
Treasures Attic Sale for benefit
of the needy of the area on Sat.,
June 4 from 8 a.m. until 3 p.. in
the old Belk’s building at 207
Battleground Avenue.
The Belk’s building will be
open Sat., May 28 from 9 a.m.
until 1 p.m. for persons to bring
items to donate, Under the Ten
Treasures concept, persons are
asked to bring 10 valuable items.
Household goods, furniture,
clothing, baked goods and other
items are needed.
Proceeds from the sale will be
given to the Kings Mountain
Ministerial Association for
distribution through its Helping
Hand Fund.
BAND CONCERT
The Kings Mountain District
Schools bands will present their
annual spring concert Thursday
at 8 pm. at B.N. Barnes -
Auditorium. Bands performing
. will be the Central School
Seventh Grade Band, the Junior
High Eighth Grade Band, the
Junior High Ninth Grade Band
and the Senior High Blazer
Band. They will play traditional
and popular band music. The
public is invited and admission is
free.
'KMHS Class Of 1983
Commencement Is Sunday Night
Final exercises for the Kings
Mountain High Class of 1983
will begin Sunday at 8 p.m. with
the baccalaureate service at B.N.
Barnes Auditorium.
Graduation exercises are
scheduled for Fri., June 3 at 8
p.m. at John Gamble Stadium.
Local ministers will take part
in Sunday’s service. The Kings
Mountain Senior High Chorale
and Ensemble will present
special music, “With A Voice of
Singing” and “O. Vos Omnes”.
Rev. Ivan Stephens, pastor of
Central United Methodist
Church, will deliver the bac-
calaureate sermon. Rev.
Timothy Johnson, pastor of St.
Paul United Methodist Church,
will give the invocation, Rev.
James Hamrick, pastor of
Pathway Baptist Church, will
read the scripture; Rev. Eric
Faust, pastor of First
Presbyterian. Church, will in-
troduce the speaker; and Rev.
Richard Styers, pastor of Cor-
inth Primitive Baptist Church,
will give the benediction.
The congregation will sing
“Crown Him With Many
Crowns.” “Pomp and ' Cir-
cumstance” will be played as the
processional and recessional by
pianist Jerri Patterson.
Members of the Senior Class
will lead graduation exercises.
Diplomas will be presented by
Principal Bob McRae, assisted
by Superintendent William
Davis and Junior Chief Marshal
Charles Tracy Bolin.
The Kings Mountain Junior
High Ninth Grade Band will
play “Pomp and Circumstance”
for the processional. There will
be no recessional.

Allen To Enter Race
Irvin “Tootie” Allen Jr. today
announced that he will seek the
District One Commissioner’s
seat in the October city election.
Allen is the first person to an-
nounce for this year’s races. The
seats of District One Commis-
sioner Jim Childers, District
Three Commissioner Corbet
Nicholson, District Four Com-
missioner Norman King, and
Mayor John Henry Moss will be
available for four-year terms.
Allen, a resident of 611 Cres-
cent Circle, is seeking a political
office for the first time. He is the
son of former Cleveland County
Sheriff Irvin Allen and the
brother of former Cleveland
