Rick Franklin, and Danny Navy stand in front of their fire truck purchased from Rowan County during Tues- day night's board meeting where they plan for fund raising projects to help the station. Firemen Need Help The Chesnut Ridge Fire Department is facing financial and manpower problems, stated Cindy Milling during its Tues- day night board meeting. She added that the fire department is not being supported by the public the way it should be. The fire department, started and organized in May 1980, con- sists of the concrete structure, two fire trucks, one being leased from Grover and the other pur- chased from Rowan County, and one water truck, donated by Patterson Oil Company. ‘One reason stated by Milling that the public is not aiding the department is that members of the community are confused as to what fire district they are located in. The monthly expenses for the fire department average $500 which includes building, utlities, and equipment. To combat the financial difficulties the depart- ment will hold a car wash, begin- ning at 10 a.m., and a hot dog sale, beginning at 11 a.m. Satur- day July 23. Firemen include: David Berry, chief; Dale Milling, assis- tant chief; Danny Navy, captain; and Roy King, lieutenant. Each fireman is required by law to take 36 hours of classwork each year. The fire meetings are every Monday at 7:30 p.m. and everyone is invited to attend. Anyone wishing to join or any present members wishing to pay their dues please contact Cindy Milling at the fire station.
