Comer, President and Chief Executive Officer, said the smaller loss in the 1983 second quarter was primarily due to in- creased profitability of Foote’s lithium operations. Ferroalloy operations were unprofitable in the second quarter of 1983 as depressed selling prices, severe competition from foreign im- ports, and low levels of demand from customer industries con- tinued.
