Page 2A-KINGS MOUNTAIN HERALD-Thursday. August 4, 1983 ODBITURRIES MARY RATTERREE Mary Gamble Ratterree, 87, of 411 West Mountain Street, Kings Mountain, died Friday at Kings Mountain Hospital. A native of Gaston County, she was the daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. John J. Gamble. She was married to the late Bright D. Ratterree. She was a retired school teacher and member of Boyce Memorial A.R.P. Church. She is survived by a daughter, Dr. Margaret E. Ratterree of Kings Mountain; a foster daughter, Mrs. Jean Diaz of New Market, Va.; two brothers, Tom Gamble and Robert Gam- ble, both of Bessemer City; four grandchildren; and one great- grandchild. Services were conducted Sun- day at 3 p.m. at Boyce Memorial A.R.P. Church by Dr. W.L. Pressley. Burial was in Moun-. tain Rest Cemetery. THOMAS MERCER Thomas L. Mercer, 80, of 1106 Linwood Road, Kings Mountain, died Saturday at Kings Mountain Convalescent Center. A native of Kings Mountain, he was the son of the late Robert L. and Susan McGill Mercer. He was a retired textile employee and a member of Boyce Memorial A.R.P. Church. He is survived by his sister, Mrs. George W. (Wilma) Mauney of Kings Mountain. Services were conducted Mon- day at 11 a.m. at Harris Funeral Home by the Rev. Kelly Dixon. Burial was in Mountain Rest Cemetery. N.B. WEBBER Napoleon B. Webber, 73, of Route 1, Kings Mountain, died Sunday night. A native of Cleveland Coun- ty, he was the son of the late Mr. and Mrs. J.C. Webber and was a retired employee of the Gaston County School System. He is survived by one son, Franklin Webber of Kings Mountain; three brothers, Esper Webber and Roger Webber, both of Kings Mountain, and Price Webber of Charlotte; and two sisters, Mrs. Attie Cunn- ingham of Charlotte and Mrs. Alzia Hall of Kings Mountain. Services will be conducted Thursday at 2 p.m. at First Con- gregational United Church of Christ by the Rev. R.J. Shipman. Burial will be in the church cemetery. ROGER McMULLEN GASTONIA - Roger S. McMullen, 25, of 2616 Crescent Lane, Gastonia, died Saturday. A native of Cleveland Coun- ty, he was a member of Washington Baptist Church and was employed by Firestone Mill. He is survived by his wife, Odessa Brown McMullen; one daughter, Alicie McMullen of Bridgeport, Ct.; his mother, Kezie Robertson and stepfather, Marvin Robertson, both of Bessemer City; one brohter, Leonard McMullen of Bridgeport, Ct.; two sisters, Katrina Wilson of Cherryvile ‘and Doreen Robertson of Bessemer City; and his grand- ~ mother, Mrs. Hannah Evans of - Bessemer City. Services will be conducted Fri- ‘day at 3 p.m. at Washington ~~ Baptist Church in Waco by the ~ Rev. H.L. Rhedrick. Burial will -be in the church cemetery. He was a 1930 graduate :- of Clemson University and was a : retired president of Simon- : Eastern Company in Atlanta. EARLE LATHAM SHARON, S. C. - Funeral ser- vices for Earle Edward Latham, 73, of Glasgow, Ky., were con- ducted Tues., July 26 at First Presbyterian Church in Glasgow by the Rev. John Massey. Graveside services with full military rites were conducted on Thurs., July 28 at 11 a.m. in the Sharon A.R.P. Church cemetery by Dr. James H. Boyce. A York County native, he was a graduate of Clemson Universi- ty, VPI in Blacksburg, Va., and was a retired lieutenant colonel in the U.S. Army Reserves. He was also a retired soil scientist with the U.S. Department of Agriculture. His parents were the late Walter Ross Latham and Iva Gettys Latham of York. He is survived by his wife, Grace Pettit Latham; a brother, Brice M. Latham of Sandy Spr- ings, S.C.; a sister, Eddys Latham Ware of Kings Moun- tain; two nieces and two nephews. HUNTER G. PAYNE SHELBY - Hunter George Payne, 78, of 711 Cherryville Road, died Thursday at his home. He was the son of the late George and Annie Payne Bridges and was a retired weaver for the Ora Mill Company. He is survived by one son, Flay Payne of Gastonia; three half-brothers, Paul Bridges of Clinton, S.C., Floyd Bridges of Carolina Beach and Ray Bridges of Gastonia; and two sisters, Mrs. Faye Anderson and Mrs. Willard Leigh, both of Gastonia. Services were conducted Sun- day at 3 p.m. at New Prospect Baptist Church by the Rev. Pressley Stutts. Burial was in the church cemetery. ERNEST WEBB Ernest Andrew Webb, 66, of 307 Fairview Street, Kings Mountain, died Thursday at Kings Mountain Hospital. He was the son of the late Jesse and Lou Yancey Webb and was a retired textile worker. He is survived by five sons, Jesse Lee Webb of Gastonia, Harry Webb of Gaffney, S.C., Robert and Ray Webb of Shelby and James Webb of Charlotte; two daughters, Mrs. Shirley Vilbert of Kings Mountain and Mrs. Lisa Hopster of Polkville; ‘one brother, Clarence Webb of Hendersonville; three sisters, Mrs. Connie Teague and Mrs. Louisa Groome of Lancaster, S.C., and Mrs. Bertie Mills of Kings Mountain; 14 grand- children and one great- grandchild. Services will be conducted Thursday at 2 p.m. at Harris Funeral Home Chapel by the Rev. Albert Mills. Burial will be in Mountain Rest Cemetery.
