76ers Maintain Lead In Boys Club Basketball The 76ers won three more games during the past week to hold onto a one-half game lead in the Boys Cub Summer Basket- ball League. The 76ers are now 7-3, follow- ed by the Hawks 74, Lakes 5-5, Bucks 4-7 and Rockets 3-7. The 76ers whipped the Rockets 78-65 and the Bucks beat the Lakers 68-51 last Wednesday. Jerry Jordan scored 23 points and Darrell Burris 14 for the 76ers. Jerrial Smith had 16 and Raynard Roberts 12 for Dye, Hullender Top Bowlers Johnny Dye and Betty Hullender had the hot hands in Mixed Bowling League action Tuesday night at the Dilling Heating Lanes. Dye rolled a 140 line and 403 set to lead his team to a four- game swep of R.W. Hullender’s team. Hullender led his group with a 116 line and 324 set. Mrs. Hullender scored a 144 line and 394 set to lead her team to three wins over John Dilling’s team. Dilling led his bowlers with a 123 line and 349 set and Charity Tignor added a 113-326. Chestnut Ridge Plans Tourney The second annual Chestnut Ridge Volunteer Fire Depart- ment softball tournament will be held August 26-28 at the Bessemer City softball field. Entry fee is $70 and two Blue Dot softballs. Entry fee is tax deductible. Travis Crocker led the Lakers with 15 and Jerry Currence added 10. Otis Brooks scored 20 and Sidney Brown 15 for the Hawks. Edward Sherer scored 17 and Thomas Feemster 15 for the Bucks. The 11-13 year-old all-star team includes Greg Young, Jamie Surratte, John Hill, Shawn Smith, Robbie Edgerton, Kevin Holland, Thomas Feemster, Timmy McClain, Rhyne Hollifield and Jeff Rogers. The 14-15 year-old all-star team includes Jerry Jordan, Gary White, Otis Brooks, Lenny Rayford, Travis Crocker, Scott Byers, John Pettis, Roydell Mc- Clain, Aubrey Hollifield and Raynard Roberts. A field of approximately 175 anglers is expected for the event to be fished out of Goat Island Marina on Santee-Cooper, which is actually two joined lakes, Lake Marion and Lake Moultrie. A purse of more than $6,500 is expected to be on the line. The winner’s helping is ex- pected to top $2,100. Tourney Slated The annual Cleveland County Junior Golf Championship will be held August 16-17 at River Bend Golf Club near Shelby. The tourney is open to all youngsters ages 6-17. Entry fee is $5. The event is ‘sponsored by the River Bend Junior Golf Associa- tion and Branch Banking and Trust Company. The winner’ name will be inscribed on the} permanent plaque that is on display in the River Bend pro shop. A trophy will be presented to the winner, runner-up and third place finisher in each divi- sion. To be eligible, a golfer must live in Cleveland County and must not turn age 18 before August 17. Entry blanks may be obtained at the River Bend pro shop. Deadline is 6 p.m. Fri., Aug. 12. Pairing and starting times will be posted in the River Bend clubhouse.
