Miss Scoggins will become the women’s athletic coordinator and head women’s basketball and volleyball coach. She will also work in the student affairs and job placement program. * Scoggins served as head coach of the Mountainettes for the past two seasons. She coached last year’s team to its first Southwestern 3-A Conference ti- tle ever. Scoggins starred on two Southwestern Conference cham- pionship teams at North Gaston High School in Dallas, and later was an All-American basketball player at Pfeiffer College. “Although I hadn’t yet had the opportunity to work with her in basketball, I have heard from her peers around the con- ference and the faculty here at the high school, and they think very highly of her as an instruc- tor and coach,” first-year KMHS Principal Ronnie Wilson said. “We are all saddened by her deci- sion but understand her reasons. She is going to further her career and the goals she’s set in life.” Scoggins, who accepted the Limestone job Tuesday night and turned in her resignation at KMHS Wednesday, could not be reached for comment by the Herald’s presstime. Tourney Scheduled The Labor Day Classic Soft- ball Tournament will be played Saturday, Sunday and Monday at Deal Street Park. Entry fee is $70 per team plus the team’s own softballs. Scoggins will be part of a ma- jor building program at Limestone, which began its basketball program last year and finished with a 169 record. For that fine record, the Lady Saints won the Palmetto Cup, which is given each year by the Spartan- burg Hearld to the college or university with the best overall record. “They have everybody com- ing back in basketball and volleyball, ” Scoggins said. “I feel like we’ll be strong. Their athletic program is on the move. They’ve built a lot of new facilities and the people are real supportive of the program. I'm real excited about getting started.” ; Scoggins’ first action as coach will be in Septeber 16 volleyball tournament at the College of Charleston. Scoggins plans to spend a lot of time recruiting this area of North Carolina and says “Ill be coming back to Kings Mountain every time I can.” Scoggins had a 36-13 record in her two years at KMHS, going 15-8 her rookie year and 21-5 last year. The 21 wins last year represented a school record for girls basketball. “I hate leaving here,” she said. “This is the hardest decision I've ever had to make. All of my girls were great.
