Page 8B-KINGS MOUNTAIN HERALD-Thursday. September 15, 1983 Derby Scheduled At Fair Brooks Completes Training Marine Pvt. Marty D. Brooks, son of Jack T. and Judith A. Conner of Route 2, Kings Mountain, has completed recruit training at the Marine Corps Recruit Depot, Parris Island, SC. : During the 11-week training cycle, he learned the basics of battlefield survival. He was in- troduced to the typical daily routine that he will experience during his enlistment and studied the personal and profes- sional standards traditionally ex- hibited by Marines. He participated in an active physical conditioning program and gained proficiency in a varie- ty of military skills, including first aid, rifle marksmanship and close order drill. Teamwork and self-discipline were emphasized throughout the training cycle. Adams Assigned Airman Michael D. Adams, son of Judson D. Adams of Bessemer City, and Billie C. Meadows of 1007 Warren St., Gastonia, N.C., has been assign- ed to Sheppard Air Force Base, Texas, after completing Air Force basic training. During the six weeks at Lackland Air Force Base, Texas, the airman studied the Air Force mission, organization ‘and customs and received special training in human relations. In addition, airmen who com- plete basic training earn credits toward an associate degree in ap- plied science through the Com- munity College of the Air Force. The airman will now receive specialized instruction in the medical services field. He is a 1979 graduate of Bessemer High School. Costner, a Baptist minister for 63 years, gave the invocation and the devotional thoughts.
