CARLEE JENKINS Carlee Jenkins, 72, of 223 North Watterson Street, Kings Mountain, died Wednesday at Kings Mountain Hospital. A native of York County, S.C., he was a member of the Mosaic Masonic Lodge No. 4 and the Order of the Eastern Star No. 7. He is survived by his wife, Jac- queline Greenlee Jenkins; a daughter, Mrs. Geraldine Dye of Gastonia; four sons, Carlee Jenkins Jr., Charles Jenkins and Sherman Jenkins, all of Kings Mountain, and Floyd Jenkins of the Bronx, N.Y.; a sister, Mrs. Doshia Wilson of Los Angeles, Calif.; and four grandchildren. Services were conducted Sun- day at Mt. Zion Baptist Church, where he was a member and deacon, by the Rev. D.W. Whit- tenburg, the Rev. J.S. Norris, the Rev. R.L. Garvin, the Rev. M.L. Campbell, the Rev. Howard Shipp and the Rev. Victor Car- son. Burial was in Mt. Olive Memorial Park. ANNIE HOWSER CHARLOTTE - Annie Louise Hambright Howser, 87, of 919 Henley Place, died Wednesday at Charlotte Memorial Hospital. A native of Kings Mountain, she was the daughter of the late George Frederick and Lizzie Wells Hambright, and the wife of the late Elbert D. Howser. She was a retired salesperson and member of Dilworth Methodist Church in Charlotte. Obituaries She is survived by one son, Jim Howser of Charlotte; three sisters, Mrs. B.O. Weaver of Kings Mountain, Mrs. A.N, Sif- ford of Clover, S.C., and Mrs. Steve C. Griffin of Newberry, S.C.; and two grandchildren. Services were conducted Saturday at 3 p.m. at Kings Mountain Baptist Church. Burial was ‘at Mountain Rest Cemetery. MRS. SCISM Mrs. Fern Hovis Scism, 71, of Route 5, Kings Mountain, died Wednesday at Kings Mountain Hospital after several months il- Iness. A native of Cleveland Coun- ty, she was the daughter of the late Adam and Angelene Neal Scism. Her husband was the late Grady F. Scism. She was a member of Patter- son Grove Baptist Church. She is survived by two sons, John Scism of Bennettsville, S.C., and Jack Scism of Kings Mountain; three daughters, Mrs. Michael (Shirley) Ware, Mrs. Gilbert (Sudie) Patterson, and Mrs. Wayne (Linda) Paul, all of Kings Mountain; one sister, Mrs. Raymond (Mary) Scism of Kings Mountain; and 10 grand- children. Services were conducted Fri- day at 4 p.m. at Patterson Grove Baptist Church by the Rev. Richard Plyler and the Rev. Bruce Hancock. Burial was in the church cemetery. Memorials may be made to Patterson Grove Baptist Church. United Fund Drive To Begin On Monday The Kings Mountain United Fund will holds its kickoff lun- cheon Monday at noon at the Holiday Inn. The goal for this year’s cam- paign is $71,000. The United Fund will provide support for 14 local, area and state agencies. Larry Wood, personnel manager for Foote Mineral Company, is president for this year’s drive. Mark Wilson is |secretary-treasurer | and Bill “Davis is campaign chairman. Division chairpersons include Becky Scism, advanced gifts and correspondence; Connie Put- nam, City of Kings Mountain; Frank Cagle and Larry Hamrick, Commercial; Kings Mountain Hospital; Greg Birskovich, Industrial; William H. Tyson, Ministerial Associa- tion; Nancy Ross, Postal Ser- vices; Douglas Stover, Profes- sional; Betty Gamble, Schools; and Lavon Strickland, Publicity. ‘The first report meeting will be Mon., Oct. 10 at 12 noon and the final report meeting will be Mon., Oct. 17 at 12 noon. The : victory dinner will be at 7 p.m. Mon., Nov. 7. The Kings Mountain United Fund has surpassed its goal for the past eight years. Ron Bagwell, Stovall To Teach ~ Gale Stovall, 24, will be the gymnastics instructor this year at the Dance Academy, 231 South Battleground Avenue. Stovall is from upstate New York and is a physical education major at Gardner-Webb College. He has participated in the Olym- pic Trials, has taught two girls who became nationally-ranked, is part owner of a gymnastics school in New York, has taught college and high school teams, compulsory and optional routines, taught on all levels from kindergarten through col- lege, and has judging ratings to judge gymnastics. Any persons interested in join- ing a class should go by the Dance Academy this Saturday. Beginners should go at 10 a.m. and experienced students at 11 a.m. Some classes will be scheduled on Mondays but students need to go by the school Saturday for their first lesson. Exercise and aerobic classes are scheduled for Tuesdays and Thursdays from 8-9 p.m. Homecoming Scheduled Homecoming will be observed by Canaan United Methodist Church in Smyrna, S.C., Sun- day. Rev. Wesley D. Farr, former minister, will be the guest speaker at the 11 a.m. worship hour. A picnic lunch will be served on the grounds at 12:30, follow- . ed by a song service at 1:30. All members, former members and friends are invited to attend and bring a picnic lunch. Plates, silverware, napkins and cups will be furnished. Cancer Volunteers Raise Over $17,000 Volunteers in Kings Moun- tain and Grover raised $17,925 for the Cleveland County unit of the American Cancer Society during the past fiscal year. The county total was $80,000. Area volunteers celebrated the successful year at a banquet last week in Shelby.
