| KM Netters Open With Three Victories Kings Mountain High’s girls tennis team is off to a fast start, having won three decisions over non-conference opposition. Coach Ed Guy’s ladies defeated East Lincoln 6-3, West Mecklenburg 9-0, and Ashbrook 54. They host Ashbrook Thurs- Beatty Reunion Scheduled The annual Beatty-Beattie- Baity reunion will be held September 18 at the Rock Spr- ings Campground in Denver. A picnic lunch will be held at 1 p.m., followed by the clan gathering under the arbor for recognition of guests and discus- sion of the family history. All Beattys and friends are in- vited to attend. The reunion has been held at the Rock Springs Campground for 30 or more years, and many years before at the Methodist Church in Lucia, N.C. Most of the early Beatty set- tlers in the Piedmont section of North Carolina trace their ancestry to either John, William or Francis Beatty. They settled in this region about the 1740’s. Holland citizens were in Kings Mountain and Gastonia several months ago for their visit to the United States. Mayor John Henry Moss is sending J. Rutten, Burgomaster of Asten, some gifts as a friend- ship token from the city of Kings Mountain. The mayor is sending Rutten the book “The Battle of Kings Mountain 1780, With Fire and Sword” by Wilma Dykeman. It is an account of the Battle of Kings Mountain, turning point of the Revolutionary War. Mayor Moss is also sending Rutten a pistol which is an authentic copy of the type used in the Battle of Kings Mountain. College Day Set The Post Secondary Oppor- tunity Session is planned by the North Carolina organization of admissions officers - CACRAO. The purpose of the session is to give students an opportunity at the individual school to talk with representatives from various col- leges in North Carolina and some in South Carolina, along with technical institutes and ROTC programs. Approximate- ly 75-80 schools will be represented. Students - juniors and seniors -aré permitted to attend the ses- sion at each school. They can talk to the representative and get materials needed in their process of college applications. The four high schools in the county have programs scheduled for Thursday, September 15. The times for each as follows: 8:30-9:45 a.m. - Burns Senior High School. 10:15-11:30 a.m. - Senior High School. 1:15-2:45 p.m. - Kings Moun- tain Senior High School. 7:00-8:00 p.m. - Shelby Senior High School.
