Obituaries WILLIAM GAILEY William Lee Gailey, 40, of Route 6, Kings Mountain, died Thursday at Cleveland Memorial Hospital after several months illness. A Kings Moutnain native, he was the son of John Marvin Gailey of Kings Mountain and the late Ruth Mae Moss Gailey. He was a retired security guard. He is survived by his wife, Linda Wright Gailey of the home; one son, William Phillip Gailey of the home; and one sister, Mrs. Ken Black of North Wilkesboro. Services were conducted Sun- day at 3 p.m. at Masters Funeral Home Chapel by the Rev. Rowe Teague. Burial was in St. Paul Methodist Church cemetery in Waco. ALLEN JAMES Allen Gettys James, 42, of 8100 Margrace Road, Kings Mountain, died Friday at his home. A Cleveland County native, he was the son of the late Lawrence James and Bessie Cook, and was a truck driver. He is survived by three sons, Jessie and Johnny James and Allen James Moore, all of Kings Mountain; a stepson, Frankie Coleman of Kings Mountain; a daughter, Rita Beam of Kings Mountain; two brothers, Lawrence Dean James of Maiden and Clyde James of Gaf- fney, S.C.; two sisters, Lillie Cook of Kings Mountain and Clara Phillips of Matthews; and four grandchildren. Services were conducted Sun- day at 3 p.m. at Sisk-Butler Chapel in Bessemer City by the Rev. James Chambers. Burial was in Bessemer City Memorial Cemetery. JOHN S. SUMNER GAFFNEY, S. C. - John S. Sumner, 58, of 947 North Logan Street, died Tuesday in a Gaff- ney hospital. He was the son of Mrs. Mary Ward Sumner of Columbia, and the late Brooks Sumner. He was a pipe fitter. In addition to his mother, he is survived by his wife, Thelma ~‘Stuard Sumner; one: step- .“dalighter, Mrs.’ Kathy 'Vinesett 3 ‘of Gaffney; a stepson, Butch Campbell of Gaffney; three sisters, Mrs. Katie Foster of Union, Mrs. Shirley Burnett of Union," and Mrs. Geraldine Hayes of Kings Mountain; two brothers, James Sumner of Union and Bill Sumner of Lan- caster; and five grandchildren. Services will be conducted Thursday at 3 p.m. at Rose Hill Baptist Church. Burial will be in Frederick Memorial Gardens in Gaffney. RUFUS MITCHAM Rufus J. Mitcham, 79, of Fayetteville, died Thursday in Adcock Nursing Home in Fayet- teville. A native of Kings Mountain, he was a retired textile super- visor and the son of the late Luther and Rachel Herndon Mitcham. He was a member of Ressurection Lutheran Church in Kings Mountain. Classes Set Registration for Community Schools fall program will begin immediately through the first day a class meets, at the Com- munity Schools office, 500 Phifer Rd. - B.N. Barnes Auditorium, from 8:30 a.m. 4:00 p.m. Registration for these courses will be on a first come, first serve basis. All classes fees must be paid on the first night of class. In the event of inclement weather where the school day program is cancelled,. the Community Schools program will also be cancelled for that day and made up at a later date. If you have any questions relating to any class or activity listed or if you would like to register for a class, call 739-2296 or go by the Community Schools office. The classes are as follows: SOFT DOLLS . CLASS -Beginning Tuesday, October 11-November 1, 6:00 p.m.-9:00 p.m. - North Elementary School - Fee $15.00. This is a twelve hour class. There is a material cost of $10.00. TYPING CLASS - Beginning Tuesday, October 11-December 13, 6:30-9:30 p.m. - Kings Moun- tain High School - Fee $13.00. Instructor, Patricia Elliott. This ‘course has a big request. Class will meet in room 102. He is survived by his wife, Ethel Uren Mitcham; two sons, Gene Mitcham of Fayetteville and C.H. “Hub” Mitcham of Tucker, Ga.; a brother, Leo Mit- ‘cham of Ellenboro; and three grandchildren. Services were held Sunday at 3 p.m. at Harris Funeral Home. Burial was in Mountain Rest Cemetery. MRS. HEAVNER BURTON, Mich. - Mrs. Jeanette B. She was a native of Kings Mountain and the wife of the late Lonzo E. Heavner. She had been a resident of Michigan since 1953. Survivors include two daughters, Mrs. Roy (Janet) Freeman of California and Mrs. Earl (Sandra) Sweet of Ann Ar- bor, Mich.; two sons, James and wife Kay Byars of Burton, Mich., and Terry and wife Diane Byers of Swartz Creek, Mich.; 15 grandchildren; one great- grandchild; one sister, Mrs. Virginia Carter of Roseville, Mich.; half-brothers and half- sisters, Lela Huffstetler, Paul Hord, Mary Treadway, Jessie Pennington, L.C. Hord, Tim Hord and Jake Hord, all of Kings Mountain. Services were conducted Tues- day at 1 p.m. at Reigle Funeral Home in Flint, Mich., by the Rev. Levi Parrish and the Rev. Wm. Cardwell Prout. Burial was in Crestwood Memorial Cemetery in Flint.
