Obituaries
JOE DAVIS
GROVER - Joe Fred Davis,
80, of Route 1, Grover, died
Thursday at Kings Mountain
Hospital.
A native of Cherokee County,
S.C., he was the son of the late
Rev. and Mrs. P.R. Davis and
was retired after 45 years of ser-
vice with Southern Railway.
He is survived by his wife,
Susie Thompson Davis; two
sons, Joe E. Davis of Baltimore,
Md., and Clinton Currv Davis of
Blacksburg; two daughters, An-
nie Woods of Blacksburg and
Henrietta Alexander of Mit.
Kisco, N.Y .; two sisters, Gladys
Brown of Blacksburg and Alice
Littlejohn of Cleveland, Ohio;
15 grandchildren and nine great-
grandchildren.
He was a member of Tryon
Lodge No. 8 and a deacon and
Sunday School teacher at Shiloh
AME. Zion Church in Grover.
Services were conducted Sun-
day at 3 p.m. at Shiloh AM.E.
Zion Church by the Rev. Omega
Davis. Burial was in the church
cemetery.
OSCAR GUTHRIE
Oscar Maron Guthrie, 66, of
2311 Carol Avenue, Lynchburg,
Va., died October 19 in Lyn-
chburg General Hospital.
A former Cleveland County
resident, he was the son of the
late Robert and Melvina
Russum Guthrie.
He is survived by his wife,
Mrs. Juanita Walden Guthrie;
three brothers, Jesse Guthrie of
Pampano Beach, Fla., Robert N.
Guthrie and William T. Guthrie
of Shelby; and two sisters, Mrs.
Dola G. Hollifield of Umitilla,
Fla., and Mrs. Francis Blanton
of Shelby.
Services were conducted
Saturday at 11 a.m. at Harris
Funeral Home Chapel by the
Rev. Bobby Swain. Burial was in
Mountain Rest Cemetery.
MRS. PETERSON
Mrs. Beatrice Kennedy Peter-
son, 83, of 314 Waco Road,
Kings Mountain, died Monday
at Kings Mountain Hospital.

Kings Mountain police
reported a number of larcenies
and other incidents during the
past week.
Thomas Meeks of 208 West
King Street reported that so-
meone stole $280 worth of tools.
Carl Wiesener of 114 South
Gaston Stret reported that so-
meone put sand in his gas tank.
Richard Hopper of Grover
reported that someone stole a
casette recorder and jacket out
of his car while it was parked at
Kings Mountain High School.
Jim Hall of 408 Pineview
Drive reported taht someone
stole a 20° boys bicycle, valued at
$125.
Kay Tignor of 308 West Gold
reported the theft of a 10-speed
bike valued at $135.
Darlene Greene of 319 Fair-
view Street reproted an attemp-
ted break-in.
The Sub Factor at 124 West
Gold Street reported that so-
meone broke into the restaurant
and stole an assortment of food
items valued at $100. There was
also $100 damage to the door.
Frito Lay Warehouse on
Slator Stret reported the theft of
$72 worth of chips.
Ricky Detter of 205 Cranford
Drive reported a breaking and
entering and theft of a TV cable
box and .22 pistol, valued at $80.
Etna Service Station on East
King reported that someone
pumped $5 worth of gas and
didn’t pay for it.
The Seven-Eleven on Phifer
Road reproted that someone
pumped $3 worth of gas and left
without paying.

Slated
The Grover Resque Squad will
sponsor a Halloween Dance this
Saturday night from 7:30 p.m.
until 12:00 midnight. Admission
will be $2.50. All proceeds will
go toward squad operations and
the purchase of new walkie
talkies.

She is survived by one son,
Charles “Pete” Peterson of
Kings Mountain; three grand-

Home Chapel by the Rev. Gerry
Davis. Burial was in Mountain
Rest Cemetery.
