Virginia Ave. Bessemer City, N.C. 629-4536 The Kings Mountain National Military Park will be the site of a Revolutionary War encamp- ment on Saturday, November 12 and Sunday, November 13. The Guilford Militia, a group dedicated to bringing a part of history and heritage to the general public, will recereate the activities of an 18th century muster. As with today’s National Guard, civilian males were mustered several times a year to be trained as a military unit. This training was necessary because the militia units needed discipline and a standard drill before joining the Continental forces as they did in such battles as Cowpens and Guilford Cour- thouse. However in most cases these rugged individuals were at their best when skirmishing on '* their.own as was the caseé-at the Battle of Kings Mountain, where a group of Patriot militia defeated a better trained Loyalist force under Major Patrick Ferguson.
