RELEASE BALLOONS - Students at Central School in Kings Mountain released balloons
Monday as their contribution to the Cancer Society's Great American Smokeout which is
scheduled for Thursday. The balloons contained messages and tips on how to quit smoking.
Students hope some of the balloons will be found by smokers and that the smokers will be
encouraged to stop smoking.
Break-Ins And Wrecks
Keep KM Police Busy
Break-ins and larcenies kept
Kings Mountain police busy dur-
ing the past week.
The Etna Service Station on
Shelby Road reported the theft
of a 40-gallon kerosene tank
valued at $400.
Wade Ford, Shelby Road,
reported that someone stole the
back glass out of a 1982 truck.
Value was $140.
Ronnie Gofnell Young of
Highway 74 reported the theft
of a Homelite chain saw valued
at $215.
Shane Ward of Pine Maner
Apartments reported a breaking
and entering and larceny of a
Philco TV and stereo. Total
value was $900.
Jamie Smith of Route 2
reported the theft of four hub-
caps valued at $250.
Testa Chevrolet reported an
attempted larceny of a 1981
Chevrolet Corvette. The damage
has not been determined.

Shanandoah, Va., reported the

theft of hubcaps from his car
while it was parked at the Holi-
day Inn. Value was $450.
Doug Rathbone of Sumerset
Drive reported the theft of four
hubcaps valued at $320.
Barbara Webb of 210 Orr Ter-
race reported that someone
broke into her home and ate
hamburgers and sardines.
Kings Mountain police in-
vestigated four wrecks during
the past week.
A car owned by Johnny
Roper of Shelby was struck by
an unknown vehicle Saturday in
the parking lot of the Waffle
House on York Road. Damage
to his car was $200.

The board also authorized the

In other business they approved
the final canvassing of the
municial elections held recently
and passed a resolution declaring
a Decade of Disabled Persons.
They also voted to grant the
request from H. Lawrence Baity
to rezone from R-6 to G-B pro-
perty fronting 100 feet on the
south side of Linwood Road.
A motion carried giving the
Mayor the authortiy to sign the
necessary documents for the pur-
chase of the three lots adjacent
to the Commissioner’s Park once
the City Attorney has the paper-
work drawn up.
