P The Churches coordinating the effort. —Weekly Devotional The Herald, in cooperation with the Kings Mountain Ministerial Association, is beginning a weekly devotional this week. The column will be written each week by a member of the Ministerial Association. The Herald expresses thanks to Rev. Oscar Stalcup. pastor of Foursquare Gospel Church, for Carry A Proper Attitude Into 1984 REV. EUGENE LAND PASTOR SECOND BAPTIST CHURCH What is the most important thing you can carry into 1984? Some would say money or riches. Others would want to carry health. Still others would choose pleasure and ease. May I suggest that the most important thing you or | can carry into this new year is a proper attitude. Now, there is something we can all have, a proper attitude. Years ago, I read of two boys who grew up in a family distressed- with alcoholism. The father was an abusive alcoholic who treated his entire family with distain and even hate. Finally, when the two boys were in their teens the family broke up and the boys went separate ways. Years later a psychologist, studying the effects of alcoholism of family life, traced the two down and found them living hundreds of miles apart. One had become like his father, an alcoholic with a broken marriage who was living on skid row in a Western city. The other son business and and was well loved in his community. When the psychologist asked the two to explain why they were where they were, he got the same answer from both, “What else could I do, with a father like mine?” Both had the same background, the same experience. Yet from the opposite ends of life they both said, “My past caused me to be what I am today.” This simply says that the difference in life is not what happens to us but, rather, it is our reaction to those events. These two boys had the same father, background, and experience, yet, one said, “I'll be a victim”, and the other thought, “I’ll be a victor.” Now, the most important thing you will carry into 1984 is your at- titude. Your attitude will determine if you will be a victim of the events of the year, or if you will be victorious in the events of the year. The Bible says, “I can do all things through Christ, who gives me strength.” You can have a winning attitude when you trust in Christ as your victory. “With God all things are possible”, even victory over circumstances! Go into 1984 with a winners attitude! As it is written, There is none righteous, no, not one: WHO HAS SINNED? For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God. WHERE SIN CAME FROM Wherefore, as by one man sin entered into the world, and death by sin, and so death passed upon all men, for that all have sinned; " GOD'S PRICE ON SIN For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life through OUR WAY OUT But God commended his love toward us, in that while we were yet sin- about the emphases offered this year.
