The work of the group covers local disasters, nuclear shelters and coordination of the county fire departments and rescue squads. Taxpayers are cautioned to be sure their returns bear sufficient postage. Gilbert To Head Campaign North Carolina candidate for Governor Lauch Faircloth an- nounced today that Ralph L. Gilbert of Fallston is his Cleveland County campaign co- chairman. Faircloth said, “I'm pleased that Ralph is directing our cam- paign. His combination of public service, business and farming ex- perience will be a big help to our campaign.” Gilbert was a member of the Board of Elections for 25 years. He is owner of Ralph Gilbert Real Estate Agency and a farmer. He is married to the former Beth McSwain from Shelby. They have two children. Gilbert said he was supporting Faircloth because of his “outstanding record in state government, including the recruitment of industries and jobs to Cleveland County. Also, he will make the strongest can- didate for the Democratic Party this fall.” Faircloth is the former N.C. Secretary of Commerce. He also has been a member and chair- man of the Highway Commis- sion. He is a small business owner and farmer from Clinton. The program for the meeting was presented by sisters Jan Deaton and Liz Bolin who had arranged a musical program. Mrs. Myrtle Christensen, who presided over business of the meeting, announced that the local unit will host the 23rd District meeting on April 29th at 2 p.m. at the American Legion Building. that the Russian Nuclear Shelters program far exceeds that of the United States. He also stated that the Cleveland County Unit could provides shelters for 85,000 people with provision of food for two weeks.
