For Cranberry Salad use Fantasia Cherry Gelatin enough for a two
to three cup mold, | regular size can of whole cranberry sauce, one
whole peeled orange, and one half cup nuts.
For Potatoes Au Gratin: use four of the smaller portion recipes of
the Fantasia Potato Chunks, one and three fourths cups of Ranch
Dressing, 1 cup grated cheese, 1 tablespoon Fantasia Seasoning and
two tablespoons onion flakes. Mix all of the above ingredients, pour in-
to a buttered baking dish and bake at 350 degrees for 30 minutes.

Larry Revels, Coordinator of
the Cleveland County Emergen-
cy Services, spoke on ‘National
Defense’ at the meeting of the
Colonel Frederick Hambright
Chapter DAR at the home of
Mrs. W. T. Weir on Wednesday
afternoon, April 4.
Upon the arrival of the
members, the hostess, assisted by
her sister, Mrs. Mary Shaw, serv-
ed delicious refreshments.
Mrs Louise Roberts, regent,
presided and opened the
meeting with the DAR Ritual.
Mrs. Hilda Goforth introduced
the speaker, Mr. Revels. He told
of the history of the Cleveland
County Unit from 1959 until the
present. The Emergency Opera-
tion Center is located in the Law
Enforcement Center in Shelby.
The work of the group covers
local disasters, nuclear shelters
and coordination of the county
fire departments and rescue
squads. Mr.Revels mentioned

Mrs. Ruth Ruff was re-elected
president of the American
Legion Auxiliary at the regular
meeting Thursday night at the
First Presbyterian Church.

Area residents may conduct
postal business outdoors this spr-
ing, Postmaster Fred Weaver of
Kings Mountain Post Office said
today.
“Our rural delivery vehicles
function = as . post offices-on-
wheels,” explained. Weaver. “As
rural customers catch ‘spring
fever,” well be there to serve
them.”
Rural carrier services include
stamp and money order sales,
parcel pickup, and acceptance of

registered and Express Mail.
Business transactions are com-
pleted on-the-spot, at delivery
stops along each route.
“These ‘open-air post offices’
are a world apart from their city
counterparts,” said Weaver, “yet
they bring a wide range of postal
services right to your door.”

mains, the postmaster said.

The Internal Revenue Service
has notified the United States
Postal Service that they will
strictly comply with income tax
regulations requiring prepay-
ment of sufficient postage on
federal income tax returns and,
consequently, will not pay
postage due charges for short-
paid tax returns.
Therefore, postmasters at the
office of mailing have been in-
structed to return to sender for
additional postage all unpaid and
shortpaid mail addressed to the
Internal Revenue Service.
Taxpayers are cautioned to be
sure their returns bear sufficient
postage.
Gilbert
To Head
Campaign
North Carolina candidate for
Governor Lauch Faircloth an-
nounced today that Ralph L.
Gilbert of Fallston is his
Cleveland County campaign co-
chairman.
Faircloth said, “I'm pleased
that Ralph is directing our cam-
paign. His combination of public
service, business and farming ex-
perience will be a big help to our
campaign.”
Gilbert was a member of the
Board of Elections for 25 years.
He is owner of Ralph Gilbert
Real Estate Agency and a
farmer.
He is married to the former
Beth McSwain from Shelby.
They have two children.
Gilbert said he was supporting
Faircloth because of his
“outstanding record in state
government, including the
recruitment of industries and
jobs to Cleveland County. Also,
he will make the strongest can-
didate for the Democratic Party
this fall.”
Faircloth is the former N.C.
Secretary of Commerce. He also
has been a member and chair-
man of the Highway Commis-
sion. He is a small business
owner and farmer from Clinton.
The program for the meeting
was presented by sisters Jan
Deaton and Liz Bolin who had
arranged a musical program.
Mrs. Myrtle Christensen, who
presided over business of the
meeting, announced that the
local unit will host the 23rd
District meeting on April 29th at
2 p.m. at the American Legion
Building.
