Page 12A-KINGS MOUNTAIN HERALD-Thursday, April 19, 1984 Classics On ‘Classics On the Light Side’ are on tap for Kings Mountain residents when ‘the North Carolina Symphony Chamber Orchestra, under the direction of Associate Conductress James Ogle, performs in Kings Moun- tain’s Barnes Auditorium at KMSHS on Friday ,May 4, at 8 p.m. The program includes Rossini’s ‘La Scala di Seta Over- ture’, Haydn’s ‘Symphony No. 94 Surprise’, Glinkda’s ‘Kamarinskaya’, Brahm’s ‘Hungarian Dances 1,3,and 10’, Gershwin’s ‘Selections from Porgy and Bess’, Tschaikovsky’s ‘Waltz from Serenade for Str- ings’, Johnann Strauss, ‘Perpetuum Mobile’ and Josef Strauss’ ‘Jokey Polka.’ Single ticket prices are $5.50. James Ogle, a graduate of the University of Michigan, is now in his sixth season as associate conductress = of the North Carolina Symphony, after hav- ing served four years as its assis- tant conductress. Winner of the symphony’ s first Young Conductor Competition in 1974, he was also a 1974 winner in the Malko International Conducting Com- petition held in Copenhagen, Denmark. Ogle appeared with the Inter- national Festival of Young Ar- tists Orchestra in Leysin, Switzerland and won the statewide James Bland Memorial Scholarship contest in. Virginia. He has also been a guest coduc- tor of ‘Music from Bear Valley’, a music festival held each sum- mer in the High Sierra Moun- tains of California. ‘Light Side Planned Here May 4th JAMES OGLE He studied at the National Conservatory of Music in Paris and with Igor Markevitch in France. In 1980 Ogle studied with Seiji Ozawa, Leonard Bern- stein, Andre Previn, and Sir Col- in Davis at the renowed Tanglewood Music Festival, summer home of the Boston Symphony.
