Miss McGinnis, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. John McGinnis, and Chen, son of Dr. and Mrs. F K. Chen, were chosen recently after tryouts to be members of the North Carolina Honors Band. The Clinics will be held next Friday, Saturday, and Sunday at North Carolina State University in Raleigh. The Junior High bandsmen are students of Christopher Cole. KMHS Band Director, Donald Beal, will accompany the students to Raleigh for the clinics. Gaston Memorial Will Hold Line On Charges Gaston Memorial Hospital, Inc., a 479-bed, not-for-profit hospital, will hold the line on charges for its coming fiscal year which begins July 1, according to the budget adopted by the Board of Truestees Monday. “We have always been very conscious of and concerned with the increasing cost of hospital care and have tried in the past to hold our increases to the bare minimum,” said T.R. Matherlee, president of Gaston Memorial. “In preparing the budget for the next fiscal year, we have evaluated all of the economic factors, both external and inter- nal, which impact our financial position and find that these are more favorable than in recent years. We have a very strong commitment to provide quality care at a reasonable cost to our patients and we are pleased that we are in a position to retain our current rate structure for the coming year.” Matherlee noted that the business of the hospital has changed significantly in the last several years. The hospital had been admitting fewer patients, but those who are admitted are older and have illnesses of a more serious nature. More pro- cedures are also being done on an outpatient basis which in- creases utilization of the an- cillary services. Other factors contributing to the budget position according to Matherlee are a reduction in manpower achieved through at- trition and current vacancies not being filled; improved collection rate; a lower level of inflation which can be accommodated within the present pricing struc- ture; improved productivity; and Exercise For Heart Planned “Exercise for Heart,” a fund raising event for the Cleveland County Heart Association, will be held Sunday, April 29, from 2-5 p.m. at Fitness Unlimited Studio in Shelby. “Aside from having fun exer- cising, you are offering people an opportunity to contribute to the fight against heart disease,” ac- cording to Terry Martin, coor- dinator. Anyone interested in par- ticipating may come by Fitness Unlimited Studio, 404 14 E. Marion St., Shelby, or may call Terry Martin or Jo Falls, 484-2988, for more information.
