George Harris, veteran health care management executive, has been named chairman and chief ex- ecutive officer of Health Group Inc., a rapidly growing hospital and long-term care management company based in Nashville. Harris, group president and executive vice president of American Hospital Supply Cor- poration for the last 11 years, joined Health Group Inc. on April 9. The appointment of Harris as Health Group’s senior executive was announced by a committee of the company’s board of direc- tors made up of Bill B. Jones, group vice president and general manager of the Health Care Group of Owens-lllinois, Inc.; Joseph V. Russell, president of FRANK JONES Tultex Promotes Franck Tultex Corporation has an- nounced the promotion of Clarence EF. Williams,Jr. to the position of President, Frank K. Jones, Jr.tothe position of Vice President-Manufacturing and John M. Franck to the newly- created position of Director- Corporate Planning. Mr. Williams has been with Tultex since 1977 and has been Vice President in charge of Manufacturing since 1980. He was formerly with Parkdale Mills for almost 20 years. Jones has been with Tultex since 1977 and before his promo- tion was General Manager of the Roxboro division. He was also formerly employed by Cheraw Yarn Mills and United Mer- . chants and Manufacturers. Franck has been with Tultex Yarns of Gastonia since 1976, here he has been Production er for Sunburst Yarns and, at the time of his promotion was manager of technical ser- vices. Company Receives Award Asphalt Paving of Shelby was recognized for having had no lost time accidents in their asphalt operations during 1983 at the Carolina Asphalt Pave- ment Association’s 1983 Safety Awards meeting. Making the presentation for CAPA was K.L. Moser, awards chairman. Don Dedmon, vice- president of Asphalt Paving of Shelby, accepted the award. The CAPA is a non-profit trade association for the ad- vancement of the hot plant- mixed asphalt pavement in- dustry of North Carolina. Elan Imports, Inc.; and George P. Van, founder and former chairman and chief executive of- ficer of Health Group Inc. Van organized the hospital management company in 1980. Some months ago, he announced he wished to resign after recruit- ment of a successor and is now doing so to pursue other in- terests. He continues as the com- pany’s second largest Lettuce! Wise Value Lite Line Crunchy shareholder, retaining a 20 per- cent equity interest. Harris is a native of Kings Mountain and the son of Mr. and Mrs. Jimmy Harris. He is a graduate of Duke University in Durham. He joined American Hospital Supply Corporation as a sales representative for its American Hospital Supply divi- sion in June of 1960. He serves as a member of the board of directors of Union Special Corp., Highland Park Hospital, and McCormick Theological Seminary.
