The ACC stars won 138-118. Athlete Of Week Former Kings Mountain High athlete Priscilla Rickenbacker was named Athlete of the Week last week at North Carolina Wesleyan College in Rocky Mount. Rickenbacker collected 10 hits in 16 trips to the plate. Included in her hits were a double, triple and home run. Rickenbacker, a former KMHS basketball and softball standout, is the fifth leading hit- ter in the Dixie Conference with a .527 batting average. She will help lead the Battling Bishops into Dixie Conference tournament action Friday at the South Rocky Mount Communi- ty Center. Wesleyan, which is second in the Dixie Conference, is in its last season of slowpitch softball. The team plans to switch to fastpitch next year since the NCAA will sponsor national tournaments in fastpitch only. Girls Defeat East Kings Mountain High’s girls softball team closed out Eastern Division Southwestern 3-A Con- ference play last Thursday with a 9-5, 2-1 doubleheader sweep of East Gaston. Coach Bruce Clark’s ladies travel to Crest Thursday for their final regular season contest. The Mountainettes will host the first round of the SWC playoffs after the Easter break. The KM ten will face the second place team (probably East Rutherford) from the Western Division, in a best-of-three series. Melanie Herndon hurled the first win over East Gaston last week and then picked up a save in the second game, won by Leslie Sellers. Leigh Anne Odell, Cindy Bullock and Yvette Moore led the KM hitting. The Mountainettes are now 18-1 overall, 10-0 in the Eastern Division and 13-1 in overall con- ference action. Jones was competing in the Boys 14 Division Jones, seeded number one. drew a first round bye and then defeated Chris Griffin of Pitt sboro 6-1, 6-0. In the semi-finais. he defeated Joey Sie of Chariotte 6-0, 6-1, and in the champion- ship match, he defeated number two seed Scott Fiigei of Chariotte, 64, 6-3. Eariier this vear, Jones piayed in the Boties Junior Invitationai in Jacksonville, Fia. He recorded wins over Kevin Cadora, 64), 6, Michael Eddings, the number four seed, 6-2, 6-1, and David Witt, the number two seed, 6-7, 6-2, 7-5 in the semi- finals, before losing the cham- pionship match to top-seeded Steve Parks, 6-2, 46, 64.
