TOP JUNIOR ACHIEVER - Lisa Edwards of Kings Mountain displays her President of the Year Award from Junior Achievement of Cleveland County. Over 90 high school students from Cleveland County and Kings Mountain schools participated in the program this year. Lisa Edwards Named President Of Year Lisa Edwards, rising senior at Kings Mountain Senior High and daughter of Mr.and Mrs. Raymond Edwards, was honored as President of the Year in the Cleveland County Junior Achievement organization at the annual banquet Tuesday night. Miss Edwards was also elected a delgate to the National Junior Achievement convention to be held this summer at the Universi- ty of Indiana. She is a recent inductee in the National Honor Society at Kings Mountain Senior High and is also a delegate to’ Girls State Bob Alexander, director of Junior Achievement of Cleveland County,made the awards presentation. Also honored were students who ex- celled as vice president of finance; vice president of pro- duction; vice president of person- nel; achiever of the year and company of the year. Michael Griffin, president of the Junior Achievement club of Cleveland County,welcomed the group. Senator Helen Rhyne Marvin, a fourth term Senator from the 25th District, and Meyressa Schoonmaker, Founder and President of the N.C. Center for Workshop Scheduled The Annual Southwestern District Handicraft Workshop will be held June 12 and 13 at Livingston College in Salisbury, N.C. The workshop is spon- sored by the North Carolina Agricultural Extension Service to provide training by skilled craftsmen to persons interested in learning a specific craft and who will in turn teach the craft to others. Classes to be offered are: tat- ting, wood carving, stained glass, trapunto vest, design it yourself, shadow-trapunto quilting, basket weaving, open workhardanger embroidery, calligraphy, rug hooking, rag rug weaving, chair bottoming with diagonal flat reed, battenberg lace (Brussels Lace), chair caning, and decorative pillow construction. The registration fee for the workshop is $6.00. Material fees vary with the class. Ar- rangements may also be made for room andr board. Classes will be filled on a first come basis so you will want to register right away. For further information and to register, call Nancy H. UNC-G Sets Reception In Shelby Alumni of the University of North Carolina at Greensboro who live in Kings Mountain and Cleveland County are invited to attend a special reception from 3-5 p.m. on Saturday, April 28, at the Cleveland County Historical Museum in Shelby. Guest speaker for the event will be Dr. Richard Bardolph, who retired in 1980 as a UNC-G professor of history. Dr. Bar- dolph’s 36 years on campus saw him win the coveted O. Max Gardner Award in 1979, the highest honor which the UNC system can bestow on a faculty member, and a UNC-G' Alumni . Teaching Excellence Award in 1980. Refreshments will be served at 3 p.m. with Dr. Bardolph scheduled to speak at 3:45 p.m. Co<chairpersons for the event are Shelby residents Kathleen Thompson of 417 W.
