Men Death EDITH DAVIS Funeral services for Mrs. Edith Stamey Davis, 68, of 119 Railroad Ave.,who died Monday in the Kings Mountain Con- valescent Center, were con- ducted Wednesday afternoon at 4 p.m. from Foursquare Gospel Church by the Rev. Oscar Stalcup, Rev. Ralph Smith and Rev. Ray Allmond, interment following in Mountain Rest Cemetery. She was the daughter of the late Silas and Frances Robinson Stamey. Her first husband was the late Roy B. Towery and her Hayley Borders Notes Birthday Hayley Dawn Borders, daughter of Mr.and Mrs. Timothy Borders of - Grover, celebrated her second birthday April 25th. She is the granddaughter of Mr. and Mrs. Robert Horton of Kings Mountain and Mr. and Mrs. Jerry Borders of Grover. She is the great-granddaughter of Mr. and Mrs.James Reynolds of King Mountain and Mrs. C. A. Borders of Grover, Mrs. Geneva Leming of Kings Moun- tain and Mrs. Edna Horton of Belmont. A variety of items will be auc- tioned and the community is in- vited to attend. A bake sale and the sale of hotdogs with all the trimmings will get underway at 10 a.m. Proceeds from the auction will be added to the building fund. Phi Kappa Phi ws the first honor society to recognize superior scholarship in all fields of study and to take into its membership the highest ranking students from any branch of learning. Membership in the society is by election only and to qualify a student must maintain a 3.8 or better average. No more than 10 percent of a graduating class from all disciplines at tte - university may be elected for we membership. The name Phi Kap- pa Phi is taken from the motto, ‘which when translated from | Greek is “Let the love of learn- ing rule mankind”. Although, the emphasis is on scholarship, the society recognizes that ex- cellent character must be an in- separable attribute of its members. Miss McDaniel will graduate May 12 from the College of Nur- sing at UNCC. After graduation, she will be employed at Gaston Memorial Hospital as a registered nurse applicant. William McSwain Joins Church Staff William A. McSwain, son of Jackie McSwain and the late William McSwain, has joined the staff of Temple Baptist Church as part-time Minister of Youth and Music. McSwain comes to Kings Mountain from Highland Bap- tist Church. Winner of the 1984 Gardner Webb concerto com- petition, he has completed his studies in organ and voice and plans to graduate in the 1984 85 year afte ocmpleting his studies in conducting and piano.
