50 Years
Mr. and Mrs. James I. Cable
celebrated their golden wedding
day on April 27th. A reception
was held April 15th at the Kings
Mountain Depot Center.
Hosts were the couple’s
children, Mrs. Barbara Hawkins
of Kings Mountain,Betty Lewis,
Glenn Cable and Phyllis Gunn-
ing, all of Gastonia.
The refreshment table was
highlighted with a golden
candelabrum filled with yellow
daisies, mums and baby’s breath.
The three tiered anniversary
cake was decorated in yellow
and white and topped with the
numeral 50.
Punch was served from a
silver punch bowl with party
pickups being served from silver
appointments.
Assisting in serving were Mrs.
Mable Ross, sister of Mrs. Cable,
and Jama Hawkins, grand-
daughter of the couple. Mrs.
Jean Cable poured punch.
Ann Hawkins and Stacie
Hawkins, granddaughters of the
couple, opened and displayed
gifts. An orchid arrangement ac-
cented the gift table.

Both the at-large method of electing a county commission and the all-district system have
distinct disadvantages. The at-large system has resulted in denying representation on the
commission to a large section of the county. The district system would deny a second person
from any area the privilege of service. | propose revising the commission to provide for four
commissioners elected in districts in one election, then three commissioners elected at-large
two years later. If elected on a district basis, | would continue to serve the needs of the coun-
ty as a whole.

McGill Court, apparently step-
ped off the curb and into the
path of a car operated by Ken-
neth Davis, 803 Woodside Dr.,
on Cleveland Avenue. Studds
was transported by KMPD to
Kings Mounain Hospital or
treatment.
Lisa Rabb, of route 5, was
treated for injuries when she was
injured in the parking lot of the
picnic area at Moss Lake last
Sunday. Police said the driver of
the car was identified as Lisa
Sipes, of Route 5. Mrs. Rabb ap-
parently fell from the car hood,
said police.
Lyman’ . Calloway, of
Charlotte, operating a 18
wheeler for Winn Dixie, was try-
ing to take a shortcut through a
local Shell Station lot when his
vehicle ripped the electrical wir-
ing and tore down the meter
box. Damages to city property
totaled $300.

Grove, was struck by a 1974
Plymouth operated by Iris
Dover of East Gold Street on
Cherry Street on April 29th.
Leonard Miller, of route I,
Gastonia, operating a 1978
GMC, struck a 1979 Chevrolet
operated by Nelson Jerry Morris
of route 6. Damages totaled
$375.
