Models Present New Look For Spring And Summer By ELIZABETH STEWART News Editor - From uneven hemlines in cocktail dresses to textured stockings with everything and the camouflage look in sportswear, the fashion trend for spring and summer runs the gamut of comfortable to chic. Fifteen models from Joan Baker Modeling Studio presented this super look in a fashion show last Wednesday during Secretary’s Day in which local secretaries were treated to lunc by their bosses at Holiday Inn dining room. White and yellow are both good colors for summer 1984 and hats are back. Harriet Floyd of Gastonia showed off a yellow sundress with yellow picture hat and textured hose which was a crowd-pleaser. And Angela Lyon of Kings Mountain modeled a white cocktail dress with uneven hemline that was a showstopper as well. The audience also lov- ed the white short dress which Susan White of Dallas modeled. It featured the soft look for the summer in an easy-care fabric with ruffl- ed skirt and elbow sleeves, the perfect dressy dress for most any occa- sion. In addition to modeling sportswear, evening-cocktail wear and dressy daytime dresses and ensembles, the models also showed the newest in beach wear. A bikini, a one piece suit and fashions for little girls like fifth grader Toscha Stinett of Bessemer City also dazzled the crowd. One man, Jeff Troxell of Kings Mountain, showed the latest in men’s fashions for daytime, after five and for the beach. Linens in sundress and jacket ensembles and in three-quarter length jackets were featured and are good on the fashion scene this year. Most of the basic styles shown are good year after year and are ver- satile. Ruffles and lace are favorite trimmings evening wear and the strapless waltz-length evening dress is back on the fashion scene in vibrant colors. The high fashion look was modeled to perfection by the young ladies and gentleman and Little Miss Stinnett and the young peopel were modeling their. own fashions. Joan (Mrs. Steve) Baker coordinated the show using 15 of her models from her downtown studio and asked them to wear their favorite attire for spring and sum- mer. They did. It was perfect. ' Mrs. Baker, show commentator, modeled a pink street-length dress with accent at the shoulder and pink hose. Featured entertainment was Toscha Stinnett, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Bill Stinnett of Bessemer City, who danced a tap dance routine to “Boogie Woogie Bugler Boy” and was a crowd pleser. She wore a blue sequinned outfit and returned later in the show to model sportswear. Prior to the entertainment and fashion show, secretaries were presented long stemmed roses.
